LONG CHAPTER! <3
𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐊𝐀!Kelly and I were holding hands as we stepped into the main building where everything would be held. This place seemed so intimidating. There were all types of celebrities, business moguls, directors, producers- you name it. That feeling of the jitters still hadn't disappeared for me.
I wasn't crazy, I knew that. No matter what I did though- it felt like I was being watched. This was true paranoia, and I didn't know how to really take that. Kelly took me out to have a good time though. I was going to honor that and not make a scene or embarrass her.She had done so much for me, the least I owed her was that.
Stunned wasn't the word when we got into the auction hall. Up from was the main stage, it was pristinely decorated, as cherubs hung from the ceiling above. The tables were fancily decorated with all the bells and whistles complimenting them. The gold, white, and royal colors were everywhere. It was overwhelming-only adding to the nervousness I had acquired.
Kelly pulled me closer, and I took the time to inspect all the tables. They had name cards on them, and I peered to catch a glance of some of the names on there. Spike Lee, Steven Spielberg; the greats, and I couldn't emphasize this anymore. It was taking everything in me not to fangirl-act a fool.
People mingled in the far corners of the gigantic room, minding their business. they carried an aura as if they belonged here. Not one of them seemed out of place. Even Kelly adapted to the environment like it was absolutely nothing. It was so easy- everything looked so easy-came so easy. That was something that I could not relate to, in the slightest.
Something in me kept urging to look at the nametags, but Kelly began pulling me away to another exhibit-or some other distraction. The foreboding in my stomach hadn't settled, and I'm starting to think that it was more than nervousness. I usually always trust my intuition, and Kelly isn't letting me do that night now.
Not blaming her or anything.
"Onika! Girl you've got to stop getting in your head, you've been like this ever since we got off the carpet. What's going on with you?" Kelly looked at me, mildly concerned. My tongue ran over my teeth in quick succession.
".... Sorry Kelly. I just feel weird." Her face softened, she was always so sympathetic and caring to me. It was truly sweet.
"Are you still paranoid about those women?" I nod was my answer and she sighed.
What she said next doesn't make me feel better in the slightest. "Well, do you think they're going to be here?" My eyes expanded and I whipped my head up to her.
"Girl!? Don't say that! I hope not." Maybe I could just back out from this stuff and just go back to Kelly's place while she does the auction.
If we're being honest, it was stupid to go out this soon with them looking for me anyways. Well, I wonder if it's just a bluff? maybe they aren't really looking for me- maybe it's just to scare me because I rejected whatever... advances they were trying to make on me. They were scary as hell.
I don't know though, something deep in my heart tells me that they aren't the type to bluff.
"Onika, it'll be fine. Please don't sweat it. Do you want some water? We can go to our table and just chill until the auction stuff starts?" That was so sweet, she was so sympathetic- I appreciated that about her. Kelly was always patient with me.
Biting my lip, I gave her a small hug because our gowns were so big that they bunched in between our legs- not giving us the chance for any closer contact. "Thanks Kelly. I'd really like that." Her straight rows of white teeth showed as her face contorted into a bright smile.
