Hello everyone! So here it is! The first chapter of 'Agnes of FairyTail'! I hope you guys enjoy it! Tell me if you think the chapters are too short, too long, or just right!
~~~~~
It was dark by the time Agnes Valencia got off work. As she walked down the dark and busy streets of Magnolia, her coco brown hair shined bright in the iridescent glow of the moon. Her red scarf flapping in the wind as she pushed through the busy crowds until she reached the waterfront apartments, where the crowds ceased to form. She had only moved here a month ago, but it was nothing like her small cottage home in the country side.
Agnes walked up the steps to her apartment building and stepped through the door frame. She jumped when the wind picked up
and slammed the door shut behind her. She eyed the door suspiciously for a moment or two until she heard a loud 'ahem' from behind her.
She spun around to see her land lady, Mrs. Lavashski, leaning against the wall. She had looked up from her magazine to eye Agnes' strange behavior, one eyebrow tilted up.
"Something wrong with the door, hon?", her voice was raspy and low as she spoke.
Agnes shook her head repeatedly, "Not at all m'am. The door is fine, I'm just a bit on edge is all.", Agnes let out a nervous laugh and slowly walked backwards, towards the stairs that led to the separate apartments.
She let out a short, high pitched squeal of fear as she tripped over the first step and fell back on the stairs, her brown leather satchel flying through the air and spilling out all her papers and books. Agnes sat up straight and looked at her land lady with wide eyes.
Mrs. Lavashski had her nose deep in her magazine again with an irritated look on her face, a vain on the left of her forehead pulsing. Agnes quickly crawled over to her bag and started stuffing papers and books into it. She got up and swung it over her shoulder, glancing back at her land lady before sprinting up the staircase to the third floor.
Agnes jammed the key in the lock, swung her door open, and slammed it shut, her back against it. Her breaths were fast and short from running up two flights of stairs.
After about a minute of self depriving herself for being so clumsy, Agnes walked over to her bed. She dropped her satchel on the hardwood floor and flopped onto the pink, silk sheet.
Five minutes past and her mind was finally at ease, her eyes slowly shutting close. She let out a heavy sigh and drifted off to sleep.
Agnes opened her eyes to see she was standing on a cloud in the sky, she peaked off the edge to see what was below. Nothing. Nothing but more clouds and blue sky. The wind started to pick up, Agnes stumbled on the cloud trying to keep her balance. But the cloud's soft and cushiony surface was hard to stay steady on and Agnes soon found that she was falling. The wind picked up even faster until she was slowly floating down. Agnes looked around for a minute, for a split second she could see purple eyes glaring at her. Before she could look back to see the eyes...
SLAM!!
A loud noise awoke Agnes and abruptly ended her dream. Her eyes flashed open and she sat straight up. Her eyes darting across the room until they met with the, now open, window above her bed. She sighed in relief and closed the window.
She sat there for a moment and looked around the room. Agnes looked at the clock, 11:30 pm. Sighing once more, she hopped off her bed. But before she could even finish her first step on her way to the kitchen, something grabbed her ankle. Agnes let out a squeal of fear and face planted to the ground.
"Ahahahaha! Oh my god that was amazing!", Agnes' face turned bright red as she heard the familiar laughter of her "dear friend", Lance.
The navy blue haired wizard crawled out from under her bed, still cackling like a psycho in the process. He got up and walked until he was right in front of her.
Agnes glared at his shoes, her face still bright red from embarrassment. She hated his cocky attitude, always trying to mess with her.
She looked up and saw that 'stupid' cocky grin of his slapped onto his 'stupid' face. Lance leaned down and raised an eyebrow, "How long are you planning to stay on the floor?" His grin not ceasing a bit as he spoke.
Agnes glared up at him and sat up on her knees. Lance just kept grinning at her, "Need some help?"
Before Agnes could object, Lance's index finger swiftly moved up and a gust of wind shot up under Agnes, sending her flying up and stumbling into Lance's arms. Lance was a Wind Magic User, not part of any guild though. He felt that a guild would just slow him down.
Agnes glared up at him, "Is this really necessary every time you pop by?" She shoved him away and brushed herself off. Lance shrugged, "Nah, but it's fun seeing you get all freaked out-."
Suddenly a loud and high pitched scream was heard from the apartment below Agnes'. Lance's grin faded into a frown of urgency and he darted towards the window.
Agnes grabbed the collar of his shirt, "Calm down, it's just my annoying neighbor and her friends.." Lance stopped in his tracks and walked back over to Agnes, with one eyebrow lifted. Agnes sighed, "She's always yelling at her friends or whoever they are, I guess they break into her house.." Her voice drifted off until she glared at Lance and pointed her index finger at him, "Kinda like you!"
Lance just shrugged and looked down at the floor, "Have you met her?"
Agnes looked at the floor with him, "Can't say I have. I sometimes see her outside, but I've only seen the back of her head.. I know she's blonde, and.. Doesn't wear the most modest clothing. She's never here, usually at work I suppose."
There was a long silence.
"I'm hungry." Lance's gaze returning to Agnes.
"Excuse me? You break into my house, scare me half to death and expect food?"
"... Yeah"
Agnes rolled her eyes and walked into her small, compact kitchen and opened one of the top cupboards, "I was actually about to make tea before you grabbed my ankles and tripped me.." Her voice sounding agitated. "That good with you?"
No answer. "Hey! Did you hear me?" ... Still no answer. Agnes stomped out of the kitchen and back into her bedroom, "Are you deaf? Do you want tea or n-" Agnes cut herself short, her eyes widening at what she saw.
On the floor was Lance, sitting Indian style. In front of him was her satchel and papers sprawled out across the floor. In his hand was a magazine that read, 'Sorcerer Weekly'. Lance looked up at her, his face turning from a look of fear of what Agnes might do to a sly grin of triumph. Agnes glared at him, "Why the hell are you going through my stu-?!"
"I didn't know you liked magic~.." Lance said with a smug grin.
Agnes quickly snatched the magazine from Lance and mumbled, "Yeah.. So what..?"
Lance's face lit up and he jumped up from the floor and right up in Agnes' face, "So what kind?!"
"W-What do you mean?"
"You must be practicing magic! So what kind?!"
Agnes was quiet for a moment until she mumbled, "Marionette Magic..."
Lance's jaw dropped, "Wow really? Never thought a conservative girl like you would choose a magic as riskay as tha-"
Agnes cut him short by kicking him where it really counts, "It is NOT 'riskay'! It just seems like a very useful magic practice!"
Lance cringed at the pain but snapped out of it quickly,
"Wait... Why didn't you use it on me when I tripped you? Or cause a pillow to go in front of you to lighten the fall?"
Agnes was silent until she spoke again, "Well I'm not that skilled yet.. I'm just learning.. and besides! You came out of nowhere!"
"Psh. Excuses, excuses."
There was a silence that went on for way longer than it should have until Lance broke it.
"Well I should get going."
"Wait, didn't you want food?"
"Nah, I just said that to get you out of the room so I could look through your stuff." Lance grinned and darted out the window. "Oh and by the way! Nice panties!"
Agnes looked over to see her drawers had been raided as well as her satchel, her face turned bright red, almost matching her scarf. "Seriously?! Damn it, Lance!"
As you can see, nothing too exciting happens in this chapter. But there is some dream foreshadowing XD. Next chapter is going to have Lucy in it! (⌒▽⌒) (I'll probably revise it in the future if I really feel like it...)
