Agnes sat in her seat awkwardly and tried to ignore the man in front of her. She glimpsed up for a moment, but that was her mistake. Just when she looked up, the man looked at her and smiled, "So then little lady, what's your name?". She blushed madly, "U-um... Ag-Agnes..." She stuttered. He chuckled a bit, "Hello Agnes, my name is Kane. So tell me, what is a little girl like you doing on her way to a place like Mente City?"

Agnes blushed even brighter, 'Little girl?!'
She abruptly stood up and glared at him, "Listen buddy! I may be short and-" she looked at her chest for a moment and groaned inside, "-not very.. big! But trust me when I say I am seventeen!" She sat down with a huff of anger.

Kane sat there, eyes wide not knowing what to say, "..Ah.. Well.." He cleared his throat, "My apologies, miss." He caressed her face with his hand. Agnes nearly melted in her seat, 'His voice is like honey! His hand is like silk! I must have him-!!" Agnes stopped for a moment, 'Shutup!! Keep it together girl!' She looked at him dead in the eyes and slapped his wrist, "What the hell are you doing...?" Kane stopped and sat back again. He chuckled, "Sorry, I stepped out of line."
'Darn right you did!'
"Anyways, I'm still curious.. Why ARE you going to a place like Mente City?"
"... I'm.. Visiting family.. On a vacation!"
Kane raised an eyebrow, "You've never been to Mente City, have you?"

Agnes sighed, "No.."
"Mente City is a rotten place. Only the most vile go there, it's home to a very fearsome guild, the MasterMinds. You see, the guild masters see themselves as utter geniuses and gods-." Agnes cut him off, "Wait.. Did you say guild masters? Like as in, multiple??"
Kane nodded, "Yes, there are three. They're all boys and said to be very close. The worst part is, they all wear cloaks so no one knows who they are. Not even the guild members."
"Oh.. That's strange."
"Quite. Now.. Why are you going to Mente City??"
Agnes flinched at the change of subject, 'Damn!!'
"Well.. I-... I'm-.. You see-!....... Well I guess you could say.. I'm looking for a friend.."
"Sounds fun."
Agnes shrugged.

The conversation died down and Agnes leaned against the window. It felt cool on her cheek as she looked at the stars and moon. Slowly, Agnes' mind drifted into sleep.

SCREEEEEEECH!

Agnes slowly opened her eyes, the train had stopped. It was still dark outside, yet she couldn't make out any stars or the moon. The only sign of light were strange glowing rocks. She sat up and and rubbed her eyes.

"Sleep well?"
Agnes looked up to see Kane looking down at her with a smile. Agnes blushed and stood up, straightening out her pleated skirt, "Yes, I did in fact. You?" She glared at him and picked up her satchel.
Kane smiled, "I did indeed."

Agnes flung her satchel over her shoulder and stepped outside the sliding door into the hallway. She started straightening out her barrettes until she remembered, 'Where's Lance?!' She looked over to see that Lance wasn't in the small room.

Agnes started to panic when she saw he wasn't on either side of the hallway.
Kane walked out of the room they had been in, "So then, where are-?"
Agnes didn't get to hear him, she had already started running down the hall, to the open door.

She jumped out and looked around frantically, she froze when she noticed her surroundings. Mente City was... Gorgeous! Agnes stood there dumbfounded, they were underground in a large cave it seemed. The walls and ceiling of the cave were so far away she could barely see them, the most amazing part was all the different glowing gems decorating the city and cave. Did I mention the city?! It was amazing, there were a bunch of geometrically shaped buildings made out of the same rock as the cave walls.

"Pretty neat, huh?" Kane said, walking up behind Agnes.
She turned around and smiled at him, "It's amazing! THIS place is home to a dangerous guild?"
Kane nodded, "Indeed." His expression turned dark. Agnes felt uncomfortable, "Well, it was nice meeting you. But I should really go find my friend." She waved goodbye and ran off.
Kane frowned and headed off to the city.

Agnes ran through the streets of the city looking for Lance, 'How far could he have gone? And why are these streets so confusing?! I think I'm lost...' She sighed and stopped to catch her breath by a fountain. 'Where is he?' She sat on the edge of the fountain and buried her face in her hands, trying to think.

"Excuse me, you lost?"
Agnes looked up to see two men in their early twenties looking down at her. The one on her right was just a few inches taller than her and had black hair that covered his eyes and went down to his ears, he was pretty thin. The one to her left was a foot taller than the other man and had brown hair pulled back in a short ponytail, he was very built and pretty intimidating.

Agnes nervously smiled up at the two, "Well actually, I am." She stood up and brushed off her skirt, "Don't suppose you could tell me where I-"
The shorter one yanked Agnes by her hair, "Is this chick serious, Lucifer?" He pulled harder, "You mocking us?!"
Agnes freaked out, 'What the hell?! Oh god what's happening?!'

Lucifer, the taller one, spoke up, "Marco. It doesn't matter, do you think the guild masters will even care? She's a girl.. Not like she can do any harm.."
Agnes winced, "Yeah! Listen to your friend-" The shorter one, Marco, cut her off once more, "Shut up! We'll show you to mess with us! You're in MasterMind territory!" He raised his hand and shoved Agnes to the ground.
Agnes froze but it wasn't just with shock, she literally couldn't move, 'Crap.. He has Paralysis-Magic..' She looked around a bit and noticed that all the houses around seemed abandoned, 'How did I not notice no one was here?! Good job Agnes, now we're really screwed-! .. Unless...' Agnes glanced down at her satchel, remembering her book of Marionette-Magic, 'Okay Agnes, this is what we've been practicing for!'

Agnes tried to move her hands while Marco and Lucifer debated on what to do with her. But it was no use, every time she slightly moved her hand, the Paralysis-Magic became more forceful.

'Damnit.. I'm useless...' She shut her eyes and began to tear up.
Agnes felt the stress on her body leave, she could move.
"Gyah! What the hell?! Where'd he come fro- OOF!" CRACK!

Agnes opened her eyes to see Marco had been slammed against the wall of a nearby building, leaving a huge crack in it, and Lucifer was being raised in the air by, "Lance!!" Agnes yelled when she saw the Wind-Magic user beating up her attackers.

Agnes smiled and got up, she stopped when she saw Lance slamming Lucifer into the wall of a near building repeatedly. 'I've never seen Lance so.. Brutal...' She shook it off and ran towards him, yanking on his coat sleeve.
"That's enough Lance!"
Lance froze, he dropped Lucifer and fell to his knees. Agnes sat beside him, "Lance...? You okay?" He nodded.

It was silent for a moment. Lance abruptly turned to Agnes, "What the hell are you doing here?! You could've gotten seriously hurt! Are you crazy?!" Agnes was stunned, Lance had never yelled at her. That's when she started to notice, there's a lot of things he's doing that she's never seen him do. Ditching her, brutally attacking someone, and yelling at her. Was there a reason he wasn't acting like himself? Or, was THIS the real him?

Lance's rage ended as he heard heavy footsteps running towards them. He turned around to see the silhouette of a group of men running towards them, "Damnit! How did they-?!"
Agnes tugged on his sleeve, "Uh.. Lance?" She pointed to the cracked wall where Marco had been thrown. Marco had vanished! Agnes' body shook with fear, 'We're dead! We're so dead! Sure Lance beat down Marco, but that was because he had the element of surprise! With Marco's Paralysis-Magic we'd be screw-!'

Lance looked down into Agnes' eyes. Seeing her afraid filled him with concern and rage. He grabbed her hand, "Run!"
Before Agnes could comprehend what was happening, Lance started to pull her with him through the dimly lighted streets.

'I can't let her down, I can't let her get hurt! Not again... I have to protect her!'
