Penthouse

I wake up in an unknown bedroom, my head hurts. What the hell happened to me? I can't remember all the things from yesterday, just some parts of it - so I rub my head trying to remember. When my vision gets a bit better and I take a better look around the bedroom, I see it must be in a penthouse, since it's so high in the sky. Plus it looks really luxurious and expensive. I try to get up but my legs still feel weak so I sit on the edge of a bed. After a few minutes, I hear the door creak. My body stiffens and I don't dare to turn around.

"Oh good morning, miss. I see you're up already." A woman's voice fills the room.

My muscles relax a bit and I let out a deep breath.

"Are you all right miss?" She steps in front of me, turning her head to the side.

"Y-yeah, where am I?" I ask puzzled.

"I'll answer that for you. You're in my home." A man stands in front of me.

The maid - I suppose turns around and leaves. I look up at his face, and my eyes widen in shock. It's Ever.

"You? Were you the one that attacked me yesterday?" A flashback crosses my mind.

"Just one of my men." He crosses his hands.

"Why? What did I do?" I find the strength to get up.

"It's not what you did, it's what your father did." He replies.

"My father? What about him?" I take a step toward him.

"Stealing guns, drugs. From me and I won't tolerate it." He says threateningly.

"And what do I have to do with it!?" I raise my voice.

"You're the only thing that was left behind by your mother. And I know that taking you away from him will hurt more than anything else. This will be his payment, losing everything and everyone he ever loved." He says as cold as ice.

"Why do you sound like I can never go back home?" My heart starts aching.

"Because you can't, kid." He turns to leave.

"I- You can't do that!" I yell and grab his arm.

My mind doesn't even comprehend what happened in those few seconds but Ever's hand grabs my jaw, making me look right in his eyes.

"Do not ever touch me. Now listen carefully. I put a lot of effort to get you here. My brother got shot, while my men went to get you. So no, I won't let you go, ever. You better behave and do what you're told." He burns with anger, his face only inches from mine.

I gulp down and give a little nod.

"Good. It would be a shame something happened to you." He says more calmly now and lets me go.

"Marina, show her around and tell her the rules." Ever leaves my bedroom.

I lean back and close my eyes. I guess I'm stuck here. My dreams and hopes shatter. All because my father had to steal from one of the leading mafia families. A tear rolls down my cheek. What awaits me now?

"Miss...?" Marina, the older woman from before raises an eyebrow in worry.

"I'm fine. I'll be fine." I mutter.

"I haven't officially introduced myself yet. But I guess you already know my name." She gives a weak smile.

"I do. And I'm Y/N Rivera." I nod back and introduce myself.

"Nice to meet you, Y/N. I know boss can be scary, but he won't hurt you. He looks and acts tough but there's more to him. Trust me. I promise I will take good care of you. Whatever you need, you come to me." She slowly takes my hand into hers and I see the warmth in her eyes.

"Thank you." I give her a small smile and only hope she is right.

"Now let me show you around. Firstly this is your bedroom. Your clothes are in this wardrobe." She points towards the big walk-in wardrobe.

"My clothes?" My eyes widen.

"Boss got you a whole new wardrobe. All designer brands. Now let's move on." She urges me.

"What?" I whisper in shock, following behind her downstairs.

He would buy me all new clothes and then act like a total asshole? It just feels unreal. I'm not as attentive while thinking and I bump into something.

"Aah!" I shriek.

"Woof, woof!" A big, black dog, barks at me.

"Oh, miss, this is Arlo. He's the boss's dog, he's not too fond of strangers, so it may take some time..." Marina doesn't get to finish the sentence.

I'm already petting Arlo and he's happily wagging his tail.

"Well, I guess he must be really fond of you then." She giggles.

"You're such a sweetheart. I guess I got myself at least one friend then, right?" I scratch behind his ears and he licks my face.

"Arlo, come!" An authoritative voice calls for him.

Arlo whimpers and gives me a look then turns to run to Ever.

"Marina we'll be back soon." He says, then his eyes fall to me for a few seconds and he's gone.

"Let's continue then. This is the kitchen and dining room. There is the boss's office and those are doors to my room if you need me. Upstairs, a few doors ahead is boss's bedroom, a gym, and some more bedrooms and bathrooms. Also if you want you can head to the balcony or the rooftop, we have a pool there." She smiles.

"What about that door?" I point to one upstairs.

"Oh, that is boss's brother's bedroom. He's currently in a coma. He was badly shot. Don't worry if you see a doctor coming in and out. They just come to check up on him." She says with a tint of sadness in her voice.

"Okay... I might go to the rooftop for a bit." I need to go and think a bit.

A feeling of guilt washed up over me. I feel like partly it's my fault Fox got hurt. I'd go and see him, but I don't want to evade anyone's privacy. Plus I don't feel too welcome here.

"Alright. But for starters, you should eat. I made you some breakfast." Marina smiles and points to the table, with delicious pancakes on it.

"Thank you." I sit down and start eating.

At least she's kind and I have a 4 legged buddy now I guess. But no matter how nice it seems, I'm still kidnapped.
