chapter 1 - too many changes

It was 2019 march 21st and there was a kid named Kenny. he was 17 living with his single mother in a little house. He was an only child who only had 3 close friends but they don’t talk as much anymore due to Kenny moving away about a year ago. Kenny and his mom Julia were at the gas station on their way home from Kennys grandparents house. Kenny slipped a few snacks in his pockets when the cashier was getting his mom checked out. When Kenny and his mom were walking out, the cashier looked at Kenny and saw a chip bag hanging out of his hoodie pocket. “Whatcha got there kid?” said the cashier. Kenny went pale and said “oh uh it's from home”. The cashier knew it was from the gas station but he just let Kenny leave and shrugged it off. He didn’t want to deal with it. They got home and Kenny put the stuff in his room. His mom was in the kitchen making spaghetti when the alert system turned on in the living room on the television. The alert system was warning people about strange unidentified hostile creatures in the area and to stay indoors no matter what. If you see one of them then don’t look at it so it doesn't notice you. Kenny shrugged it off as a couple of coyotes making their way to the woods or something. He felt a little guilty about the snacks he stole so he wanted to give them back. He was about to leave to go back to the gas station when suddenly the power went out. He still left though. While he was walking to the gas station he heard muffled noises come from behind him. When he turned around to see what the noise was from there was nothing there. When he turned back around his heart started racing and he couldn't move. It was himself in front of him. or what seemed to be identical to him besides its face. Its face was gone except for eye and mouth holes. It was just droopy skin. Kenny was staring at it in shock. After 10 seconds it screeched. After it stopped it screamed at Kenny telling him to stop looking in a muffled voice that almost sounded like his own. “I'm too beautiful to be seen by your eyes even in the darkness” said the creature. As it slowly started walking to Kenny after 3 steps it stopped. Then it jolted at him and Kenny ran as fast as he could back home. He looked behind him and it was gone. It was in the woods just staring at him now, looking away whenever Kenny looked back at it. It was still following Kenny though. When Kenny got home his mom wasn’t there. There was a note on the counter saying “there is no service so i had to just leave a note. I went to see if your grandparents were okay from all the commotion and you aren’t here right now so i'm leaving this so you know why i'm not home. Love you, I'll be back whenever, and dinner is in the fridge.” Kenny stood in shock when he stopped reading the note. His mom was right there cleaning dishes. “M-mom?...” said Kenny. She turned toward Kenny with a face of unattached skin that was drooping. It was like the replica of him but instead it was his mother. It looked like its arms were starting to grow longer and Kenny ran out of the house. He couldn’t go to his real mother because his grandparents lived on the other side of the state. He thought about it while running that the only places he could go were his friends' houses. They lived about 18 miles away from Kenny, all on the same block. He didn’t think he could get there fast enough and he was already exhausted. There were no drivers on the street due to the alert so he couldn’t get a ride from anyone. He did the only thing he could think of doing. He went to every house he saw and banged on the doors waiting for anyone to answer. Nobody ever did though. On his 9th door he realized he made it to his aunt's house but the car was gone. “She must have gone with mom,” Kenny said. But then he remembered that she had a car in the garage that she never uses because she only wanted it for show anyway. It was an expensive vintage car. He searched the garage but it was not holding any keys. None of the doors to her house were unlocked so he broke a window and climbed inside. He searched around the house looking for the key but he couldn’t find it anywhere so he went to his aunt’s room and searched. He knew that she had a shoe box full of stuff from her collection of stuff she loves. He went into her closet and reached for the top self in the back. He knew it was there because she would always show him souvenirs from different places that she had been too. He didn’t know if the key would be in there because the last time he saw the box was before his aunt had gotten the car. Kenny got it down and opened it. Dumped everything out and saw a car key. It could only have been the one he needed So he went back to the garage to leave but there was no gas in the car but Kenny’s aunt had some canisters of it so he put in as much as he could and went to drive. It only had a bit of gas but it was good enough. When he was about to drive off he saw the creature that looked like him come running at the car but Kenny sped right at it with no hesitation but the strange creature didn't stop running. Kenny hit it with lots of force and it was down. Its blood was purple and all over the front of the car. Kenny went out to see if it was dead but it stood up quickly. Kenny got back in right away and sped off. He tried going to the gas station but the worker wasn't there anymore and Kenny didn’t know how getting gas worked because he never paid attention to it being done. He just decided to use what he had wisely. The car had barely any gas anymore but Kenny was still 10 miles away from his closest friend's house. Instead of using all of the rest of the gas, Kenny got out to search people's garages and sheds for gas. He didn’t go knocking on doors because he didn’t want any more delays. He just let himself into all the ones that were unlocked. He ended up finding a gallon of gas in a big garage he found in someone's large backyard. As he was leaving, a long arm grabbed it and the long armed creature came out. It was the replica of his mother but it was very different from before. It had extremely long arms and legs that were twisted all over the place. Its hair was very long but there wasn’t much of it. Its skin was saggy and grayish in color. There was a long tongue coming out of its saggy skin where the mouth skin is. It was making strange loud noises and wouldn’t let Kenny leave. It went in front of the door to block it. Kenny quickly grabbed an axe that was hanging on the wall next to him. Kenny didn’t hesitate and knew he had to fight his way out of this. He swung the axe at one of its feet and it came right off. The creature screeched and grabbed Kenny with its tongue. As its tongue was pulling back in, Kenny swung the axe about 3 times at it until its tongue came off. Then as it was trying to grab kenny again, he got a latter that was under the lightbulb and as the creature's arm came flying about to knock over the latter Kenny jumped off and swung the axe right in the middle of its face. It started swinging around and making loud noises and it pulled the axe out of its face and it started falling apart limb by limb. When it was finished it hardened into a stone like substance and then fell apart like dust. Kenny took the axe with him and he walked back to the car with his eyes open wide. “Damn…” he said as he stood looking at it. It was actually dead. Kenny grabbed the gas that it took from him and put it all in the car's gas tank. He got in and drove away, still in disbelief. Now his friends are the least of his worries. All he cares about is getting answers and making it across the state to get to his mother. “I need to get to her before they do,” Kenny said.
