She was hoping what he said is just bullshit. After taking a nap upon realizing the demons of this world hide away when the sun is out, and venturing out to find a place to take shelter in, she recounts the fight she had against the rainbow-eyed demon. He was a strange one, that she admits. Though she may not have met other demons, but she can tell that Douma is a very strange one; an enigma at best.
But when night fell, after she finally found a place to call her temporary home, she decided to see if he was just saying things. While making her way towards the open area, she encountered some demons which she made quick work of right away. She learned a few things while being in this unfamiliar world. Since she'll be there for goddess knows how long, might as well learn about it from the inside out.
Demons cannot linger out in the sun, or else they'll perish. They despise a plant known as wisteria, which are poisonous. They more they eat humans, the more stronger they get and gain new abilities along the way. Those abilities are called Blood Demon Art, as it varies depending on the nature of the demon.
When Byleth thought about it in another way, it's basically magic through blood. This was certainly intriguing to her since from what she has known, magic was basically only tapped into faith towards the Saints. If she had to be honest, she herself isn't an expert in that fields despite having to study it to understand it for the sake of her students who excelled in magic. But that doesn't stop herself from attempting to learn it during the runs.
The works of Blood Demon Art would certainly be interesting to work and study into. If Byleth had to be honest, it would most certainly get Linhardt's attention and he would be more than happy to look into it. Sadly, he is not here with her. Which reminded her about having to find a way back home. But with the lack of magic in this world, it's proven to be impossible.
Unless, of course, she could find a demon with a specific type of Blood Demon Art that could most certainly be a big help to send her back. That would mean having to explore every nook and cranny of the world, searching for a demon that fits the bill. It could take goddess knows how long. Months would pass, maybe even years as it would take much longer than she wanted.
Byleth can go that method, or try to create a spell herself. That would mean memorizing the spells she can recall from her studies and the tomes she has picked out from the library. Even ones that was once Rhea, which are now hers to look into whenever she ascends to becoming the Archbishop of the Church. Spells that were long forgotten or hidden from public, which she can recall why based on how dangerous they are and how devastating if performed wrong.
Magic is unpredictable; the nature of magic itself is something that is still a mystery to many in Fodlan. If there's anyone who could grasp onto the very essence itself, it would be Sothis. But of course, she was no longer with her to guide her or explain the basics of it for her to understand completely. Byleth had to work for it all on her own, through trial and error.
But she had help from either Manuela or Hanneman, whenever she had trouble and seeks them out.
_______________
Pulled from her thoughts, she found herself within a clearing miles away from where her home is and even more miles away from a nearby village. The mint-haired mercenary finds herself observing the area, while wiping the Sword of the Creator clean from being caked in the lesser demons' blood with a torn cloth from her recent kill. Clean, she tossed the now bloodied cloth to the side; there was no point of keeping it.
The clearing is expansive with nothing that would hinder her movements. It sort of reminds her of the Grondor Fields, which made her block from the unpleasant memories of the battles she went through. Far from public so the world will be oblivious to a potential bloodbath they should not see in their lives. This spot is perfect for many reasons; one of them is obviously for a battlefield to take place.
