"Ohmygosh!" I squeak at the sight of a butterfly landing on my nose.
I go cross eyed attempting to admire the beautiful creature. This made my day. I'm so happy.
"Little girl! Come back inside now!" My father grabs me by my arm and drags me inside the house. "What do you think you're doing?" His voice is hard and stern, making my eyes transfix on the strawberry socks that cover my feet.
"I'm sorry, I was only-"
He grabs my jaw in his hand and makes me look at him, his hard set expression making my eyes fill with tears. "No. You know you're not allowed to leave unless I tell you to."
"Right. I'm sorry."
He pushes me in the direction of the stairs and I head towards my room. My sanctuary. I love my room so much.
In my girly haven, the bed becomes a sanctuary beneath the gentle embrace of a canopy, a fortress of comfort that cocoons me in safety as I lay down each night. The soft fabric drapes over like a whimsical dream, casting a subtle glow that blends with the fairy lights adorning my bed frame and dancing around the room. Their delicate luminescence weaves a tapestry of warmth, turning the small space into a magical realm where reality and my dreams intertwine.
Amidst the comforting ambiance, my plushies of various shapes and sizes are scattered with purpose.
Each one holds a post, stationed strategically to stand guard and watch over me while I sleep. Their cute, embroidered eyes gaze protectively, creating a unit of cuddly friends against the shadows of the night. In the soft glow, they seem to come alive, their stitching forming an army of loyal companions who ensure that Papa's harshness stays far away in the realms of the waking world.
The room itself is a reflection of my girlish whimsy, with pastel hues and touches of fairy-tale motifs scattered throughout.
A collection of art adorns the walls, portraying scenes of imaginary worlds where dragons befriend princesses and castles touch the clouds. Each element is carefully chosen to cultivate an atmosphere of innocence and joy, turning my room into a haven where dreams are nurtured, and the darkness that lingers beyond its borders is kept at bay.
The walls are covered in little paintings me and Cecilia used to do.
They helped keep everything just a little happier.
