Hajime's POV

My tenth rollerskating competition is in a few weeks and I'm super nervous. I know I'm good at rollerskating; I've won several competitions, I can skate better than most of my friends, and I practice daily, but I can't help but feel like I'll stumble and embarrass myself. So far, that hasn't happened, luckily.

I sit on one of the benches by the rink while putting my skates on. I made sure the laces were pulled tight and were as secure as possible before I stood. The carpet made it much easier to walk as I made my way to the polished, wooden floors of the rink.

I began skating around the rink rather quickly. I made sure to avoid people that looked like beginners and children as I made my way around the rink three times. After a few more laps, I stopped at the benches to drink some water. As I was sitting, a boy with white hair sat beside me with his skates next to him.

He pulled off his regular shoes and stuffed them into a locker. He sat on the bench again and began to put on his shoes, although he seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. He couldn't figure out how to lace his skates or pull his laces tight enough. I tried my best to hide a snicker as he turned to me.

"Excuse me, I'm sorry, but...do you know how to properly tie these laces?" he asked, his voice quiet and polite. "If you don't, that's fine, but I just figured you might."

"Oh, yeah, I can help you."

I turned my body to him as I grabbed the laces from his left skate in my hands, pulling tight. I tied the laces and then tied it again, just to keep it together. He repeated the same process on the other skate.

"There you go. Do you actually know how to skate?" I asked, having a feeling he would say no.

"Uh...no. I just wanted to try it out...is that allowed? Should I have not done that?" he said in a panicked voice, his eyes widening slightly.

"No, no, that's fine, don't worry. I can teach you, if you'd like," I offered with a shrug.

"Would you really? I'd love that!" he said, a smile making its way onto his face.

I put my water bottle back in my locker and shut the door. I got up from the bench and walked in front of him. I held out my hand for him to take and he happily accepted, although he was wobbly. After a few minutes of trying to balance, he finally stood up.

"Okay, you're up, now. Do you know how to move?" I asked.

"Nope. I don't know how to do anything," he said with a chuckle.

I grabbed his hand again and led him to the edge of the rink. I stepped down onto the shiny wood while he stood there, staring at me.

"It's very slippery, be careful. But I'll be right next to you the whole time. I'll try not to let you fall, but I can't make any promises," I warned with a laugh. He nodded.

He stepped down carefully onto the rink. He wobbled around a lot, but I caught him. He thanked me quickly before I pulled him to the edge of the rink.

"I think it's safest for us to start out here. That way you can grab onto the side of the rink or onto me; whichever one you feel most comfortable with," I explained. He nodded again, grabbing onto the side of the rink.

"You kinda have to push out with your legs," I instructed, demonstrating how to move. "It's fine if you don't get it perfect, not everyone moves like that. Plus you're just starting out, so...maybe just try moving."

He started moving just a little bit, making a wavy kind of motion with his legs. He continued holding onto the wall as he moved.

"There you go, you're getting the hang of it," I complimented. He smiled and blushed a little.

Time skip to a few hours later...(still Hajime's POV)

I learned that the white haired boy's name is Nagito. He's the Ultimate Lucky Student and he goes to the same school as me. He thinks it's so amazing and hopeful that I've found a talent that "suits my personality and behavior" or...something like that.

He's become pretty good at skating over the hours we were together, and I even managed to get his phone number. Maybe I can teach him to skate more often...
