Summary: Milo tries to plan the best and most aesthetic dinner date for them and Oz, only to have virtually everything go wrong for them. However, despite the fail, Oz still has a fun time.
This has been a long time coming. Milo and Oz met at summer camp and started dating 5 weeks afterwards, however something Milo noticed is that they've never been on a real date together. Sure, they hang out everyday and Milo feels butterflies in their stomach whenever they see him, but they've never purposely gone out with the intention of it being a date.
So Milo decided to change that! They booked a reservation at Le Monstre Prétentieux, which was a restaurant known for their fancy food and amazing lighting for selfies. They went out shopping with Oz for clothing fit for such a restaurant, which for Oz was a plain yellow suit with a matching bowtie and a plain white dress shirt. Milo, after a couple hours, picked out a black corset, pairing it with a magenta pants suit and black heels.
And just like that, the day arrived and the two were rushing to get ready in their separate apartments. Out of all the days this could happen, Milo lost their favorite hair brush so they had to find a replacement and somehow managed to only be a couple minutes late when picking up Oz.
They both just stared at each other when Oz opened his apartment door, admiring how they both looked. Both looked regal and elegant, but with a hint of nervousness in their posture; showing that despite looking confident, they were both nervous as hell.
Oz was nervous over the whole thing. What if he used the wrong fork to eat his food? What if one of his phobias knocked over a candle and burned the whole place down? What if he couldn't pronounce the food on the menu and embarrassed himself in front of Milo? There was just too much unpredictability over the most basic date in the world.
Milo was nervous over the circumstances. Despite knowing Oz for about a year now, first dates are when you officially get to know someone according to the movies they watched. This night will change their relationship forever; for better or for worst, Milo didn't know.
Nonetheless, both of them push their worries aside and start heading out to the restaurant that was jam packed with fancy looking monsters. While the two waited in line to get in, Oz's stomach started turning over the people surrounding them. Milo took notice of the change in the boy's behavior and held his hand for comfort.
Eventually the two made it past the bouncer and shuffled their way towards their table. Oz was drastically out of his element and Milo felt the same, despite being to events in restaurants like this. They saw all these influencers posting about going to this restaurant and having the best night of their lives, but it didn't really live up to the hype.
There was a live orchestra playing classical songs while the service was walking around in suits that cost as much as Oz's rent. Everything felt too perfect, which then made it feel wrong.
That could just be the nerves talking though, every first date has nerves. It's just weird because out of the entire time of Milo and Oz dating, neither of them felt this kind of tension. It wasn't romantic or anxiety over a crush, it felt like pure discomfort. It felt as though there were needles down their spines, forcing the two to have perfect posture and fight through the awkwardness.
They were both too shy to bring this up. Oz believed this was Milo's ideal date and Milo believed they had to do this to be an official couple. In all honesty, neither of them wanted to be there, surrounded by strangers and overly extravagant foods.
Milo forced themself to talk to Oz which ended in awkward small talk, a thing that has never happened between the two before. Oz slowly started to curl in on himself when the waitress showed up to take their orders. Since neither of them knew what they wanted yet, Milo took advantage of this opportunity to order some wine.
