Summary: Milo never understood the importance of school, they already had a lifelong job as a grim reaper, so what's the point? After being caught skipping for the thousandth time that year, the principal assigns them a tutor to catch up on their classes. As angry as Milo was, they couldn't deny after meeting their tutor, they were happy to have the help.
All it took was one Instagram post showing Milo was skipping school for them to be called into Principal Giant Spider's office the next day. Or the day after that, it's kinda hard to get someone who never shows up to school to go to the principal's office.
However, eventually Milo did show up to school and they were immediately forced into the office, much to their dismay. They sat down in front of the principal that was literally just a Giant Spider and waited for their 'superior' to speak for them.
"Milo, do you know how many days you've been absent this school year?" They ask and Milo just shrugged while taking a selfie with one of the principal's many arms.
"What does it matter? I already have the job of being a reaper and I can't exactly get fired; not to mention the second job of being a social media influencer, trust me when I say there are no qualifications for that." They laugh to themselves and the principal sighs.
"School prepares you for life," They start and Milo already rolls their eyes, "Not just your future job. You never know when you have to calculate the right angle of a triangle in everyday life."
"Okay, how about when that happens I'll start going to school." Milo jokes and the spider wipes their glasses.
"Sadly enough Mx. Belladonna, you won't be skipping school from here on out because I'm assigning you a tutor that will make sure you get to school and help you catch up on the curriculum you missed."
"But Principal Big Spi-"
"No buts on this," The principal interrupts, "you need to start taking school seriously! You will head to class after this and you'll meet your tutor during your lunch period at the library."
Milo stays quiet for a minute, trying to glare the principal to death, but when that doesn't work they sigh.
"Fine, I'll go along with your stupid idea, just know this is all pointless!" They shout while getting up from their seat and heading towards the exit of the spider's office.
"I'm glad we could talk about this, Mi-" The principal's sentence was interrupted by Milo slamming the door shut while leaving, only to open it again and poke their head through.
"Quick question, where the fuck is the library?" Milo asks and the principal laughs.
"It's the tower to the right by the main entrance." They respond and Milo smiles and shouts a "Thank you!" before slamming the door shut again.
Then Milo promptly went to class, but only because it was the best class this school had to offer; otherwise known as theater. Then they skipped the rest of their classes till their lunch period where they got slightly lost looking for the library.
When Milo finally found and entered the library, they were immediately hit with the smell of old books and the hum of computers the school refused to replace despite being made in the 90's. Milo walked around the surprisingly crowded tower looking for their new tutor.
Then Milo passed a shelf and saw a student sitting alone at a table in the back looking down at his work. He was wearing a yellow t-shirt with a white dress shirt underneath it, along with black dress pants accompanying his outfit. Milo thought he was kind of cute before looking away.
Milo looked around for a minute and came to the conclusion that he must be their tutor because no one else in the room seemed to be tutor material.
All the other monsters in the room were trying to balance lit matches or painting their claws with food dye. So, Milo walked over to the boy and set their bag down at the table before sitting down themselves.
The boy jumped at the presence of another person and Milo held back a laugh. After the other kid calmed down from the jump scare, Milo held out their hand for him to shake.
"Hey I'm Milo Belladonna, and I'm assuming you're my new tutor the principal assigned me." They state and the other nods while shaking Milo's hand.
"Yeah, my name is Oz Yellow." He says quietly and Milo laughs at his shyness.
"So, what exactly are you going to be helping me learn, darling?" Milo asks, genuinely curious because they haven't been to school for a while.
Oz blushed softly at the nickname before saying, "Well I'll be teaching you, quoting the principal, 'Everything and anything from the first half of this year from every class.'"
Milo sucked some air through their gritted teeth when they realized how much work this will actually be. They looked down at the folder that Oz was looking through before and saw a very detailed schedule for their tutoring classes.
"Look, Oz was it? How much money would I have to give you to not tutor me?" They ask and Oz gives them a playful look before snickering.
"It's not as bad as you think it is, you just have to learn the basics." Oz states and Milo whines while putting their face in their hands.
"Okay wise guy, where do we start and when can I leave?" Milo sighs and Oz smiles to himself while checking over his schedule.
"We're going to be going over some algebra and you can leave at the end of your lunch period. Or, the principal offers that you can skip your classes to catch-up with me because they believe you're just going to skip anyway." Oz says and looks up at Milo afterwards.
"They really don't have any hope in me, do they?" Milo says with a laugh and Oz just nods his head honestly with a smile no one in the room could see. After a bit, a question came to Milo's mind.
"Wait, wouldn't that mean you would skip your classes?" They ask while moving their head to rest on their hand and Oz nods.
"I've finished all the credits I need to graduate, so I'm basically just taking all electives, tutoring is actually one of them." Oz says which makes Milo's expression morph into surprise.
"You're telling me you willingly signed up to spend your time trying to teach kids stuff they don't care about?" Milo asks and Oz lets out the first proper laugh on his side of the conversation, which Milo's eyes and heart turn pink at.
"I wouldn't say willingly, it just looks good on college applications to help 'troubled students' with learning." Oz says, slowly showing his personality to Milo.
"Well, mind helping this 'troubled student' catch up in... fucking algebra or whatever else you have planned." Milo laughs out and Oz just smiles while pulling out a textbook to go over with Milo.
Surprisingly enough, learning algebra and then later geometry wasn't that hard with Oz explaining it. Milo was surprised with how quickly they were picking up on how to do math, granted they were also surprised by how quickly they were developing a crush on the boy sitting with them.
By the end of the day, Milo left as though they knew Oz for years. They learned that Oz was one of the top students in their year. They learned that Oz also had a permanent job of being the embodiment of fear, but he was going to college because he wanted a hobby, which Milo found quite funny.
Most importantly though, Milo learned that Oz was single. The two parted ways when they walked out of the front gates and Milo couldn't help but feel happy that their stupid principal force them to have a tutor. They got a free crush out of the experience, and little did they know they also gained a reciprocated crush as well.
