I want you to know that I hold you forever in my mind.
That even when we've both died and our ashes
Have decomposed in the earth,
A version of you will be forever held in my soul.
A very deep part of me was kissed by you.
You've left this profound and breathless
Trace of stardust somewhere underneath
All of the emptiness in me.
I want you to know I dream
Of the warmth you have to give.
Of the hot tears and sunny smiles
Seeping out through your poorly hidden heart.
Of the raging flame you become in anger
And the warmth of your breath against a cool sky.
You are a shade of yellow that I
Will never in a hundred years be able to grasp.
A kind of light things like me should not touch.
You've got the kind of smile that swallows
All of the oxygen from my chest.
Your eyes are so very honest even
When your lips try not to be
And the way they energize others pulls me in.
You were not built from a weak cloth
But rather you are rough and loud.
Your presence holds a weight and a thickness
That will not be suppressed or denied.
I want you to know that I see you.
That the agony swirling in your eyes
Is not lost on me for all your light.
Even though you are this light, this yellow,
You are so much more than that.
You are a bruised and violent purple
Up broken ribs and the smearing
Blood of a busted lip.
You're a twisting forest in the middle
Of July and everything which creeps
Or crawls along the way in it.
You are, to put it lightly, everything.
Before there was you, there was nothing.
Or rather for me, there was nothing.
I want you to know
That the idea of being too close
To you frightens me.
You are not a breakable thing
But rather a thing that thrives
Despite the most impossible circumstances.
You are a sunflower amidst a damp cave.
You are the breath taken under water.
You're a final scream into the void when
The void offers nothing left to you.
It is because you are so capable
And full and bold and heavy
That I run from you.
You would be the death of me.
To lose you in that way or to be hurt by you
Would destroy me beyond repair.
I'd never sleep again after having gazed
Into your galaxy eyes while your knife slips into me.
Anyone else in the entire world and I'd
Laugh as the soul flees my body
But you- you would incinerate me in
Such an insufferable and inescapable light.
I want you to know that if ever I was capable
Of loving anything at all,
That it was you.
