The creature came right up to Adam and I, and meowed. "Oh. You were right." I bent down to it's level and saw a small black and white kitten, it's face was all bloody and it had rough, bald patches in it's fur. "Omg Adam look." I picked up the kitten, to which it began meowing a lot more. "Shh shh shh it's okay." Adam reassured. He examined the kitten. "Oh my God, his fur and his face." Adam replied. "I'll take it home and look after it, I have a shoe box it can stay in for the nights." I offered. "What about your mom?" Adam asked. "I won't tell her." I put the kitten under my hoodie at my chest, with it's head peeping out under my chin. "What will you feed it?" Adam asked. "I'll go to the convenience store outside my house and buy some cat food and flea stuff now just in case." I replied.

We walked the rest of the way home and Adam went into the store with my money and bought cat food and flea killer for the kitten. "Here's your change." He smiled. "Thanks." Adam and I were now soaking wet and needed to get inside. "My mom's car isn't here, she's not in." I replied. I unlocked the door with my key and stepped into the hallway. "MOM?!" I shouted. No answer. "Yep, she's not in." I nodded for Adam to come inside and I messaged my mum to tell her I was home. "Thank God it's dry in here." Adam smiled. "I know right." I replied. "Ok you feed the cat, just use a small plate from the kitchen side, I'll go up to my room and get a blanket and a shoe box for him." I passed the kitten to Adam. "Okay, shall we feed him upstairs?" Adam asked. "Yeah." I went to the kitchen and got a small plate for the food and the three of us went upstairs. Adam put the kitten on the floor, to which it stumbled around the room slowly. I picked up an old vans shoebox and a small blanket I could fold up and put inside. "This will do for tonight." I added. Adam put the cat food on the plate, to which the kitten started gulping it down instantly. Adam and I watched in awe. The room was silent, until broken by a small yawn from the kitten, he'd finished all of his food. "I'll put him in his bed." I said, I picked up the kitten and placed him lightly in the box. "I think he likes it." Adam smiled. The kitten took a look around the box and then started to get comfy and lie down. "What shall we call him?" Adam asked. "Socks." I replied. "Socks?" He questioned. "Yeah, because of his white fur on his legs he looks like he has socks on." I pleaded. Adam smiled. "Yeah, we should keep it as Socks." He replied. I smiled back at him. "Well it's getting late, will you be okay on your own?" Adam asked. "Yeah, my mom should be home soon anyway." Adam and I got up from sitting on the floor and I walked Adam out. Thankfully, the rain had stopped. "Call me when your home so I know you got home safe ok?" I asked. "I will." He smiled. "Good night Adam." He stepped up and gave me a light kiss on the cheek. "Night Leah." He smiled and walked away into the darkness.

About half an hour later, my phone rang and it was Adam letting me know he was home. "Is your mom home yet?" He asked. "Yeah, she came in a few minutes ago, I had to hide Socks in my closet." I chuckled. "She thinks I'm asleep at the moment though." Adam laughed on the other side of the phone. "I really need to go as my Dad's going and he also thinks I'm asleep." Adam added. "Okay, do you want to come over in the morning so we can get rid of the fleas Socks has?" I asked. "Yeah sure, I'll see you tomorrow." "Okay, see you." I smiled as I put down the phone and turned towards Socks who was fast asleep in his box.
