Odessa Newby was your normal seventeen-year old girl, well at least during the day. She hated school, hated people at her school, or just in general. But during the night, being awake meant sneaking out. Not to party, not hang out with anyone, but to clear her mind. She didn't care whether she'd get caught or not. Her dad, Bob Newby, was one of those dads who would just simply give you a stern talk about why you shouldn't sneak out, but that was it, no real punishment.
Living in California, was amazing to Odessa. The weather was perfect for her, it was never too dark or gloomy. Her and her dad a nice apartment, and Bob had a job that was paying a somewhat decent amount. Over the years of Odessa growing older, she never really questioned why her mom was never around. All she knew was that her mom and her dad got a divorce at Odessa's ripe age of two. The only thing she has that once belonged to her mother was a small silver dainty ring, with all of but one small diamond on it. And Odessa never took it off.
Summer of 84', her father lost his job. He wouldn't explain how, or why, the only thing he kept repeating was, "it's better this way".
Two months later, in October, Bob announced the one thing Odessa hated most. They were moving out of California.
In the last days of October, Odessa, her father, and her pet hamster, Squeaks, were headed to a little town in Indiana named Hawkins.
Odessa had never heard of the town Hawkins, but as soon as her and her father reached the sign that stated, "Welcome To Hawkins", somehow, deep in her gut, she knew that something was up with this town. With the gloominess and darkness that washed over once she passed town lines, she just couldn't shake that feeling.
Odessa had no clue at just how right she was.
