When Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder drove past an orphanage in 1990, all they saw were miserable children who needed a home.
A couple of weeks later, they turned up at the same orphanage and decided to look for a child to adopt.
Eventually, they were paired with six-month-old Grace Catherine Smith but she couldn't come home for another six months. Grace went to her new home on her first birthday; the best presents a new parent could give.
