Nimh's Dream

Chapter 7

All of the rats had stopped working and were staring at the rat looking mouse that was yelling at Justin.

Justin looked at her and then quickly scooped her face up in his hands. "She was captured. I promise that I myself will go get her once this is done. This is the most important thing right now" he said seriously but softly.

Their faces were inches apart and he sternly talked to her and Anna nodded in understanding. "I will go with you when this is all over to get her" she nodded in his hands.

He gave her a stiff nod before slowly dropping his hands and looking to the other rats. "We must continue!" He yelled out.

Everyone didn't want to listen but looked to Nicodemus and he nodded and everyone got back to work. Few kept their eyes on the girl who Justin so delicately handled and wondered why they'd never seen her and what she even was.

One of these pairs of eyes felt the surge of malicious intent fill him and was deciding if he wanted to rodent dead or if he wanted her for whatever power gain her could find. He decided to keep her alive for now but knew she was of a new importance to him.

Anna decided she needed to keep her mind busy to not run quickly to go save her mother and knew it was more important to stay there.

Anna quickly put herself to work watching the ropes below the brick standing closely to Nicodemus. The evil eyes saw that she was there and realized she would die if he went through with his plans but decided it was worth the risk.

"Come on mates!" Justin yelled boosting moral of the other rats. "Put your backs into it!"

All the sudden Anna heard ropes start to snap from up above where she was standing. The fear surged through her and she looked to Nicodemus and he didn't have a look of fear but a look of knowing.

She quickly jumped and tackled Nicodemus to try to get him out of the way of her mother and siblings' house that was obviously falling.

When everything when black as it came crushing down into the mud.

Anna's eyes opened and everything was blurred. "Nicodemus..." she mumbled trying to sit up. "Nicodemus..."

When her eyes focused she was looking into the eyes of Justin and he had a heartbroken but relieved look in his eyes.

"Where's Nicodemus.." she groaned trying to look around but she was in a pile of rocks. That's when the pain hit her. It was her tail and her side. She looked back at her tail to find blood leaking out of it and it cut in half. It was now the size of her mothers. Her side was also leaking blood quickly and her vision was starting to blur again but she was fighting it.

"Where's Nicodemus" she asked Justin again as he was looking at her worriedly.

Justin shook his head, "Nicodemus is no more.."

Anna chocked in a sob, "...I tried to save him. I tired to push him out of the way..." Justin nodded and got down and lifted her up into his arms. "Justin.. Justin I'm so sorry" she cried as he started to carry her to a safer area.

Once he placed her down a voice was heard. "Friends... we cannot move the Brisby home" a rat said who turned out to be Jenner that was standing in the middle of a group of rat that were bowing in sadness.

"But we... we just can't leave it here in the mud" someone called.

"The equipment is a shambles" Jenner said pointing to the brick

"Justin!" A voice was heard and Anna turned to see her mother running toward Justin who was now standing not to far from Jenner.

"Mom" Anna croaked out but not loud enough. She was in pain but stood up anyway.
