Chris and Street arrived at the courthouse, and Chris' hand was shaking. Street immediately noticed and interlaced their fingers. He sweetly said, "Chris, if you really don't want to go through with this..."
"I do. I swear," she guaranteed as she felt her heart still racing. She knew that she wanted to marry him, but still, committing to someone so completely was a bit terrifying.
"It's really okay, babe. I understand," he replied. He could tell this was overwhelming her quite a bit.
She gently rubbed his arms, trying to assure him. "No. Street, I do want to marry you. Like you said last night, it's you and me forever," she guaranteed with a small smile.
"We can be together forever without getting married, or we can wait a bit, and...." Street began but Chris cut him off with a kiss.
After a few moments, she whispered against his lips with a sly smile forming, "Shut up and marry me." Then, she grabbed his hand, and guided him into the courthouse. He didn't say another word, but he was beaming.
They arrived to fill out their paperwork to find that Luca and Deacon had already arrived.
"Guys! Go get checked in! Let's go!" Luca coaxed and pointed to the clerk and the small line they had to wait in.
"Hello to you, too, buddy," Street said.
"Congratulations," Deacon said and shook Street's hand.
"Thanks," Street replied.
"I mean, when I woke up this morning, I didn't think I was going to a wedding, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised you two would just elope like this," Deacon admitted.
"Timing has never really been our strong suit," Chris responded.
"Does this mean you think it's a bad time?" Street asked.
"We're making our own time right now," she answered sweetly and pulled him along to the line forming to check in with the clerk.
"Crazy kids," Deacon said under his breath with a smile.
Standing in line, Chris smoothed her white pants and readjusted the collar of her white blazer a few times. Then, she fidgeted with the black silky tank top she wore underneath. Street grabbed both of her hands to steady her and said, "Babe, we can still back out. We have 90 days before the license expires," he reminded her. A fact he had learned this morning while googling as he watched her brush her teeth.
"I don't want to wait. I don't want to back out," she promised.
He kissed her forehead. He knew she was overcoming a big fear of hers to do this for him, and he greatly appreciated it.
They had to wait 30 minutes before the judge could marry them, and in that time, Fowler, Tan, Cabrera, and Powell had arrived. They were up next, and Street looked to the door.
"He'll be here," Chris assured.
"What if he doesn't approve of this? What if he's not happy for us?" Street asked.
"It's Hondo. Of course he'll approve...hey, I'm supposed to be the one getting freaked out, and you're supposed to be the one calming me down," she joked. Then, she rested her head on his shoulder.
"This is kinda crazy, right? I mean how long have they even been dating?" Fowler whispered to Luca.
"They're soulmates, Fowler, this isn't crazy! This is amazing!" Luca mused, staring at the happy couple.
Fowler looked back at Chris and Street, watching them snuggled up together in each other's arms, and she remembered when she had met both of them. They weren't dating at the time, but she could sense their connection just by watching their interactions. Just by observing the way they joked with one another and the small glances. She recalled a time when she had seen them whispering in the armory with huge smiles on their faces, smiles she had come to realize were only reserved for one another, and suspected that they were more than friends. She accepted that Luca was probably right; no matter how long they had been together romantically, they were an amazing couple, and if soulmates did in fact exist, she would suspect that they were soulmates. Her thoughts were interrupted by the loud door swinging open.
