"What's wrong with the ending?" I ask, leaning back in the chair as I watch the day light die through the dusty mini blinds.
"Well, frankly it's bizarre. Is this really the story you want to tell the world, about why you, and the three others, went missing without a trace?" He asks, frowning.
"Is it a bad story?" I ask, looking back at the thick manuscript on the desk.
"It's clearly untrue."
"So it's not a bad story. It's a happy ending. Everyone likes a happy ending don't they? The good guys win?" I ask.
"It makes no sense that you would fabricate certain details. The supernatural element is a slap in the face to those who lost their lives."
"Okay," I shrug.
"You're not going to change anything, are you?" He sighs, wearily, sinking into the wing backed chair behind the wide desk.
"No," I say, smiling a little.
"Your father was a chemist, as I recall. But you were adopted, as a young child. How your father found you, was never fully explained. Why fabricate Sebastian's existence?" He asks, frowning, "You had no ties to the town. Sebastian Ramos doesn't exist."
I shrug.
"You're a very curious fellow, does anyone tell you that Dr. Brenner?"
"Often," I say, standing, "Now if there's nothing else you have to say?"
"You're really not going to tell us how it ends?"
"What are you talking about? It's over. The good guys won, that was us."
"You know I'm talking about the rest of it. Your disappearances were only the beginning of the events that led to the total destruction of Pine Hollow."
"We didn't have anything to do with that. Obviously. Since all of this is made up, and not true," I say, tapping the papers.
"We asked for the truth. You gave us, obvious lies, and expect me us to be pleased?" He asks, cocking his head.
"I don't expect anything. Enjoy the book. That was the deal, wasn't it? One book," I say, going to the door. I can leave now. It's over.
"Yes of course. That was the deal."
