Hey guys! I originally wrote this back in high school when I was in 10th grade in 2012 as a writing assignment for English class. We had to choose a random object and write a story about it in less than 45 minutes. The first one is what I came up with. I decided to rewrite it 10 years later to see if my writing has improved after taking a break from writing for 7 years. I hope you guys enjoy it. Please feel free to leave a comment or a like. Thank you.

Alex felt as if she couldn't breathe as tears swelled in her eyes. She looked around the pale white room she has grown to know so well these last few years. She had been in this room far too many times. Alex felt like she was suffocating with this overwhelming hospital smell lingering in the room. She opened the window to feel the breeze on her skin and hopefully get some of that smell out but she felt nothing. She was numb from the pain in her heart. Her husband has cancer. He has been fighting this since he was 7 years old. Something was different this time, she felt it deep in her gut. Her worse fears were confirmed when the doctor just told her that he won't make it through the night. They don't think he will make it past the next hour.

Alex was currently asleep. Alex slowly turned on her heel and walked across the white, shiny floor. It was so quiet in this room that all you heard were her feet, the machine, and Justin's shallow breathing. She sat on the chair next to his bed and studied his face. His once beautiful and cheerful face was now pale and broken. His head which used to be full of thick dirty blonde hair was now completely bald. His cheeks were sunken in and hallow. He looked like the shell of the man he once was. She couldn't hold it in anymore as she let out a broken sob. She started to weep, thinking of how her life would be without Justin.

Justin was awakened to the sounds of Kallie's sobs. "Alex. Alex. Please stop crying," He urged her softly.

"How can I? I'm going to lose you forever," She whimpered. Her bottom lip quivered as a pending sense of dread and heartache loomed over her.

"Come here," Justin moved over on the uncomfortable white hospital bed and opened his arms. Alex sniffled and went into his arms. Her head lay on his chest as he wrapped his arms around her. "You will never lose me, you hear me?" He swore as he ran his fingers through her thick black hair. "We will be together again."

"But-," Alex shook her head. How can he be so sure? He's going to die soon, so young. How is she supposed to go on with her life?

"No, not as long as you love me. I will always be in here." He pointed to her chest. "In your heart."

"I will always love you, Justin." She promised him as she looked up at him.

"Do you remember that day at the beach?" Justin kissed her head and gathered her into his arms, squeezing her tightly to him.

"Do I? I remember it like it was yesterday." Alex laid her head back against his shoulder and reminisce about one of the best days of her life with Justin.

It was a beautiful day at the beach. The sun was beginning to set at the horizon. Alex had her flip-flops in one hand and her husband's hand in the other. She felt the warm, wet sand between her toes as they walked close along the shoreline. If you were on the outside looking in, you'd think they were the perfect 'it' couple. Without a problem in the world. But they're anything but that. Justin has cancer. He got diagnosed at age 7 which devastated Alex. They've been neighbors and best friends since they were in diapers. He beat cancer the first time at 7.
