Freezing water splashed over Clay's head. He woke up with a gasp as the rest of his body was plunged into the river. Strong talons gripped his shoulders, shoving him under the water.

He thrashed, terrified, and the current nearly dragged him away. The other dragons yanked his head out into the air and shouted, "Quit struggling! We're saving you!"

Clay went limp and let himself be shoved under the water again. He felt the sticky poison washing away from his scales, although the pain lingered. As his pain died down, memory clicked on. He lunged back to the surface.

"Tsunami and Aria," he yelped. He tried to wrap his wings around them, flapping and splashing in the dark.

Their claws dug into his spines on his back. "Seriously, Clay, stop moving!" They whacked his tail back into the water. "We don't what this white stuff is, but it smells awful, and we think that it's trying to dissolve your skin."

"You should listen to Tsunami and Aria," A night dragon and an ice dragon said, pushing Clay's left wing under the water.

Clay turned his head toward the NightWing and IceWing.

"Starflight and Glaze!" He yelped.

"What did we just say?! Stop moving!" Tsunami and Aria said.

"You should do what Tsunami and Aria said," A SeaWing and a SkyWing said, pushing Clay's right wing under the water..

Then Clay turned his head toward the SeaWing and SkyWing.

"Bubble and Ember!" He yelped.

"What did we just say?! Stop moving!" Tsunami and Aria said.

"You should follow Tsunami's and Aria's order's," A SeaWing/SkyWing said, pushing Clay's shoulders under the water.

Then Clay turned his head toward the SeaWing/SkyWing.

"Caribbean!" He yelped.

"Face Tsunami and Aria and stop moving. We're trying to save you," Caribbean said.

Then Clay turned his head toward Tsunami and Aria.

Then Tsunami and Aria moved Clay's claws to the rock and helped him hang on against the fierce current while Starflight and Glaze poured more water over his head. He strained his eyes, trying to see them, or even black shadows that might be them, but it was too dark. Then Caribbean went around and stopped in front of him, in between Tsunami and Aria. Then Clay clung to the feeling of their cold scales against his. They were really here along with seven others.

"How did you two get free?" Clay asked through shattering teeth to Tsunami and Aria. They had to shout to be heard over the roaring waterfall.

"Grass, Water, Ice, and Fire," Tsunami and Aria said. "We realized that if Kestrel's flames could merge the the chains together than maybe more fire combined with grass, water, and ice would break them apart. She knew that we couldn't breathe out all the breaths, and as usual she figured that we wouldn't help each other, because that's not 'dragon nature' or whatever. It took Sunny, Starflight, and Brightglide together to get their fire hot enough along with Bubble and Ember to get their grass sharp enough and along with Glaze to get his ice breath cold enough and they ball blasted one of the links until it shattered. And then we, except for Brightglide, Glory, and Sunny, followed you as fast as we could. Technically, we followed Caribbean through the dark hole to you because Caribbean was worried for you."

"You were worried for me?" Clay asked Caribbean.

"Yes, I was worried for you so I followed you from right behind after you left the dark tunnel." Caribbean said.
