Feelings for an elf

We met in mid summer
With clouds just barely over head
My father smiled as he saw you
He introduced you as an old friend
You spent some time with us
My father begged you to stay longer
But you said you had to go

I always had you in my mind
The elegant air you had about you
The way your eyes shined when you smiled
My father often teased me about this
And told me what you liked
I've been working on a gift for you
In hopes that you'll accept it

Months have passed
And you finally came by today
I smiled at you
And you hugged me
How that hug made my heart flutter
You sat at our table
And I finally got the courage
I gave you my gift
Made carefully of magic and nature
You smiled at me
Your eyes shining bright in the light of the fire

You held my hand as we talked that night
Your skin soft but for the tips of your fingers
Where you had pulled back
the string off a bow so many times
You told me of adventures
People you'd met
And gave me a gift of your own
An intricate necklace you bought
From a far away land
As you put it around my neck
I couldn't feel happier
And thought that you might feel the same

You're leaving tomorrow morning
You've invited me to travel with you
My father says I should
So I packed and readied my horse
I have yet to tell you my feelings
But I know I will soon

As I look at the stars tonight
I find myself excited to sleep
beneath them with you
Maybe you love me
Maybe I'm just a fool
But I know my feelings for you
I hope you feel the same
