Hospital Lights

There was a blinding luminescence burning my eyes as I try to open them after blacking out. My mind hurt, making my brows furrow. The strength it took to simply do that, sent a horrible throb through my rib, jolting me fully awake, making me clutch the sheets.

"Looks like someone needs som'ore pills." the familiar voice of my favorite smart ass rang out.

"Please." I begged, my voice was dry and rough, I was hardly legible. He reached into my bed to press the call button for the nurse.

"Thank you." He helped me relax back into the bed. As he brought the hospital apple juice to my lips he smiled, knowing it would make my throat feel better.

"You had quite a night." He exclaimed patting my head as of I was a three year old. The fact that I was sipping out of a juicy juice didn't help.

"We all did." I agreed.

"HELL yes I was squished on top of a dead man!" He exclaimed. I tried not to laugh so hard, sparing my lungs from any more pain.

"Necrophiliac." I joked, his face sending me into a hoarse coughing fit.

"No Jane...just stop." He pleaded in a mockingly condescending tone.

"You called?" The nurse popped in, heading straight for my iv bags.

"Someone needs some more pain killers." David exclaimed, "Maybe some anesthesia, she's not sane at the moment."

Both the nurse and I giggled in response. He glared at me, not liking how much fun I was having with his traumatic experience.

"I'm going to add some morphine to your bag, you're extremely low, I don't know how you're not screaming in pain." The nurse assured me.

"I am on the inside." I responded closing my eyes, feeling the morphine rush through my veins as she pored it in. Glancing at David, I noticed his face was no longer a humorous scowl, it was pitiful and sad. He didn't like seeing me hurt.

"Do I want to know what happened?" I asked once the nurse left the room.

"Don't you remember?" His tone in shock, eyes searching my face for deceit.

"At the moment I apear to be very heavily medicated." I pointed out. He nodded, understanding.

"Well the good news is everyone is arrested." He began.

"WHAT?"

"Ooo, probably said that wrong...that gang, the gang Peter got away from. The one we were trying to videotape." Our poorly thought out plan came back to me. I cringed at the thought.

"Every one of them? Are you sure?" I wanted to make sure, the last thing we need is thugs coming after us for revenge.

"Yah Sherlock's brother...Mycrosoft -or some coke induced name like that- tracked every one down, there are no ties still out on the street. Did you know he's part of the british government or something?" I nodded.

"Where's Sherlock?" I questioned, my heart aching as I spoke, having nothing to do with my broken ribs. He sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly, as if there were a lot behind my question.

"He didn't make it-"He began, getting interupted by my heart monitor going bazerk.

"Nooo!" My heart surged with pain, already thinking of myself as dead do to the the enormous cloud of catharsis that just about consumed me.

"Jane! Jane!" David tried to restrain me from yanking my IV out and tearing myself out of bed.

"To the hospital Jane! To the hospital." He repeated staring me straight in my eyes. His hands still on my shoulders as I sank back into the bed.
