Chapter 7 - The Fight (Part Two)
(A/N: This may or may not be very good. Either way I hope you like it! Please comment and vote. I'd like to get to 2,000+ by my birthday, which is this July! Thank you!)
Ready…fight!
As I circled Thorne in the fighting ring like a caged animal, and he did the same, I noted how lucky I was that this would be our first fight. There aren’t many rules in these fights, but there are some; especially in the first fight. In this round there would be no weapons, and absolutely no killing – well, not on purpose. Now I didn’t know how well this Thorne fellow would follow the rules, but from what I could tell he wasn’t carrying any weapons. He didn’t have any in his loose fitting jeans, which I didn’t understand why he chose those to fight in. And he couldn’t be hiding any in his black shirt. He obviously wasn’t dressed to fight, but I didn’t take this as an advantage; in fact I took it as a warning. If he didn’t think he needed proper clothes to win a fight then I needed to be on my very best behavior.
It wasn’t like I was dressed for this either; Johnny’s boots weren’t slipping off my feet, but they didn’t fit that well. If I was wearing my own clothing I would feel better about this. If I had my daggers strapped to my legs, instead of sitting in the back of the van, I would be more confident about this. I probably would have struck already. Instead I stalled; walking all around the ring, listening to the roar of the crowd, as my eyes stayed trained on my enemy. Suddenly I knew Liu was right; I wasn’t ready for something like this. I had been trying to keep up with my fighting for the past few years, but without a legitimate fighting partner I couldn’t push myself. Though I didn’t want to admit it, I had lost some of my skill. I wasn’t the same. My legs weren’t as strong as they were and my arms shook at my sides.
Thorne suddenly stopped circling and crouched down low, I did the same. We stood on opposite ends of the circle, staring, waiting…
The rule about weapons kept me from using my daggers, but there was no rule against elements.
Thorne leapt forward like a coiled snake, flying at me with his foot outstretched. His boot aimed for my chest, getting ready to deliver a devastating blow. Copying Chutar, I dodge to the side and spun back with my own kick as he flew past me. My foot made contact with the back of his neck. He grunted in pain and fell to the ground next to me, but rolled on the dusty ground and stood to his feet. I walked backwards, away from him, watching him ready himself for another attack.
He cocked his head at me as I studied his muscles; trying to tell what his next move would be. I learned this trick a long time ago. It can really help in fights like these.
We moved at the same time; flying at each other with different attacks. He sprung out with the same kick as the last, and I went to deflect it, but at the last second he changed it to a cartwheel and a rising punch. Forgetting what he had done to Liu, I fell for it, and the punch connected with my jaw. I fell back onto the ground and held my jaw as it throbbed. My head thumped from the pressure before slowly fading. I looked up at him with glaring eyes as he laughed coldly at me.
“Not very challenging, is she?” he asked himself.
This man reminded me of Gollum from the Lord of the Rings.
In one swift movement my leg spun out and kicked at his ankles, but he jumped over it. This gave me enough time to stand, however, and let me ready myself for my next attack. He swung out a punch and I dodged it. He tried a kick but I crouched low and avoided it. At least I could dodge.
