Ask: Aizawa marriage proposal
Hi! How would Aizawa propose to his lover?
First things out the gate..
This was traditionally done:
**Traditional Japanese marriage proposal customs differ a bit from those found in the Western hemisphere. When a man decides he will ask a woman to marry him, a "yunio" (Japanese engagement ceremony) must be planned and attended before the couple are officially engaged. At the yunio, the two families meet, often for the first time. Nine gifts carefully wrapped in rice paper are exchanged, symbolizing their hopes for the union, such as wealth and prosperity; strong, healthy children; happiness; and longevity.•Japan has steered away from older traditions of proposal and marriage.
Now Aizawa...
•He will ask permission to marry you. To not is an insult to the father in his culture. He would ask the parents to keep it quiet until he personally proposes.
•Then a late dinner during a planned fireworks festival. Diamonds are becoming popular but Shouta Aizawa chooses an inset diamond with engraving. He's borrowing the idea of poesy rings.
•He will serenade you with an original song Hizashi helped him write.
•Holding hands he would say:
これからもずっと俺の隣にいてください
korekara mo zutto ore no tonari ni ite kudasai"From now on, always be by my side..."he would ask. Shouta would be prepared to present the ring.
•You would be standing up and when it's placed on your finger he will do a respectful bow.
•Down on one knee is what medical knights of Europe did for noble women. It's not medieval times and definitely not Europe.
•Finally a fireworks festival dedicated to you.

Not constrained by Gender
Just as these simple moments of heartfelt words contrasted with the Western bent toward the big, I found another rather surprising difference: women are often proposing to men here in Japan.
While my survey was by no means exhaustive, two out of the six women I interviewed had proposed to their husbands. This was surprising. I have seen dozens of friends and acquaintances get engaged back home, and it is always the man who does the proposing. When a woman proposes to her male partner, it's so unusual that it's remarked upon.
Broadly speaking, it's probably not all that common in Japan either. But the casualness with which both friends mentioned it - and the fact that neither are rebels against society - makes me think it might be less of a big deal here for a lady to propose to her man.
"It wasn't a typical way to propose," Miho confirms, while talking about how she asked her husband to marry her after they had had a fight. "But I sometimes hear of the same situation." The woman asking, not the fight, she clarifies.
I also wonder if this could be related to the "shy man" theory; could this be another reason why it's not taboo for a woman to ask her beau to marry her in Japan?
Posie rings (sometimes spelled posy, posey or poesy rings) are gold finger rings with a short inscription on their surface. They were popular during the 15th through the 17th centuries in both England and France as lovers' gifts.

There are no rules anymore. One non-Japanese I interviewed proposed to his girlfriend after a romantic guitar serenade in the park.Dec 19, 2013

What Is the Tradition of Proposing on One Knee? The tradition of a man (or woman) proposing on one knee comes from medieval knights bowing before noblewomen. Upon getting down on one knee, the proposer will then ask their partner for their hand in marriage with the phrase "Will you marry me?"Jul 4, 2021
