Lexi!

Lexi!

Lexi come here!

Look at what mommy got!

Where are you, baby?

Baby?

Lexi?

Lexi!!!

Lexi get out of there!

Lexi come here, come to mommy's voice!

It's too dangerous!

Justin! Help!

It's gonna be fine Lexi. Everything's going to be fine.

“Ally! Wake up!” Dwight's voice pulls me out from my dream.

I open my eyes, only for it to close again from the stinging. I rubbed them awake and notice that there were tears. Was I crying the whole dream?

I heard Dwight's footstep exit my room but not before muttering something under his breath. It was along the lines of “Finally”

I sit up straight and stretch my arms. I was planning to go back to sleep. It was tempting. I pressed my alarm clock to check the time.

“7:29 a.m.  June 16th, 2023. Friday.” A robotic female voice said. I pressed it again so that it wouldn't continue saying stuff I don't need. So it's a Friday. Could've sworn that it was a Saturday.

Wait... 7:29? School starts at 7:30.

“Hurry up Ally!” I heard Dwight's voice through the door.

I quickly got off my bed. But instead of my feet hitting the floor, somehow my face was the first thing to hit it. It made a loud thud.

“Ally?” Dwight called out. He doesn't sound worried since he hears it almost every day. I manage to bang my head on the floor every time I get up.

“I'm fine,” I replied.

I quickly find my walking stick and use it to find my way to the bathroom. Even if I had memorized the entire layout of the house and still can see quite a bit, I'm still scared of the possibility of me hitting a wall.

I got to my bathroom and washed off my face. I tied my dark brown hair into a high bun and walk to my wardrobe. I don't bother with make-up since it's futile and pointless. Try applying make-up when your vision is covered with thick jelly.

I open my wardrobe and felt the stack of clothes to feel what I want to wear. Most of my clothing's consist of bright colours since I can differentiate between them.

I went for the first thing on top which was a bright blue long sleeve button up. I find a white t-shirt to go under it. I went down to the second drawer which, with the help of Dwight's dad, was painted bright pink to differentiate the drawers. I took out a pair of jeans. I found my way to the corner of my room where there was a hoodie hanging on a hat stand. I grabbed my hoodie just in case it starts to rain.

After I had changed into my outfit for the day, I head out the door. Dwight was waiting at the stairs tapping his foot impatiently.

When he saw me he wrapped his arm around my waist and help me down the stairs. We went to the kitchen where Dwight's mom had already prepared some toast. I stuff one in my mouth and said my goodbyes.

We hurriedly exit the house and went to school using our usual path.

“Bad dream?” I heard Dwight ask.

I turn to him, having no clue what he meant.

“Just now, I saw you were crying when you're sleeping.”

“Oh, that,” I remembered my dream last night. “Dreaming 'bout mom. The usual.” I said as I shrug. I would have dreams about mom at least once a week. Weirdly, on the same day every week. But this night was different, I've never woken up with tears.

“Yeah, but you were crying. Wanna talk about it?” He asks.

I shook my head. Dwight sighed. Silence falls between us.

So I started singing again as we picked up our pace. “I can hear the sirens, I can see the fire, and it feels so good, so good to be young.”

When I literally hear sirens, I immediate stop singing. I look around and saw the red and blues of police lights. There's was a lot of silhouettes of police cars blocking the road around a black mass. Then I realised that we were at the abandoned building from yesterday. I could hear manly voices having conversations.

I felt Dwight's arm pulling me closer.

“Just walk past,” Dwight whispered to me.

I nod and lowered my head. As we walked past, I could feel the stares at us. A weird feeling started to grow in my stomach. We were about to pass when a police officer called us over

“Hey, kids!”
