I woke up to the smell of bacon wafting in the air. For a moment, I didn't know where the hell I was. My eyes glanced around the room, recognizing the hints it gave me. The organized shelves, the monochromatic theme, and the recognizable clothes on the floor---I had slept over at Sasuke's. I had the entire bed to myself, which only meant Sasuke was up and in the kitchen.
I pushed myself up and slid out of the bed. I scrambled around until I found my underwear to pull on. Leaving the room, I followed the scent of bacon all the way to the kitchen. Sasuke was by the stove, cooking up a whole breakfast. However, my eyes didn't stay on the food too long. Sasuke was wearing a pair of sweats and a t-shirt that looked oddly familiar. It was the one I had left a week ago.
"Are you hungry?" Sasuke asked, glancing over at me.
"Always," I joked. "I haven't had a real breakfast since I started college."
"Are you serious?" he questioned with surprise. "Do you not know how to cook?"
"I know how to use a microwave," I sheepishly answered.
"Doesn't your grandfather own a restaurant?" Sasuke chuckled. "He had to have taught you a thing or two."
"Well, first of all, he has other people cook the ramen," I explained. "And secondly, all that man ever taught me was tips he learned from Playboy magazines."
He laughed softly and shook his head. "I'll teach you."
If you told me a year ago that I'd be waking up in Sasuke's apartment and cooking breakfast with him, I wouldn't believe you. It all felt like a dream. He was so patient with me when I kept dropping the bacon every time I flipped it. We'd laugh and he'd just say "Try again." He'd feed me samples of the breakfast and would ask if I liked the taste. When I'd say I loved it, he'd smile and blush all the way up to his ears. If a stranger was watching us, they'd assume we were a couple. Or just two people that obviously really liked each other, at the very least. It almost kind of hurts to think that this could be our life if it weren't for the circumstances.
"I notice you're wearing my shirt," I mentioned as I sat down at the small dining table to eat with him.
He softly smiled. "I figured it was mine now since you never asked for it back."
"I'm just surprised you'd willingly keep it," I smirked. "I figured you'd be too cool for a comic book character."
"I used to read it all the time with you as a kid," he playfully argued, looking a little embarrassed. "It's not like I stopped liking it. I even have the whole series in my bookshelf."
"Really?" I beamed like a child.
He nodded as he took a bite of his breakfast.
"Well, the shirt looks good on you," I grinned.
He blushed and shook his head. "Shut up."
The entire morning was incredible. We talked like normal people. I learned that he loved reading in his spare time. He's not a big fan of sweets and prefers to eat healthy. When he's stressed, he likes to take walks to clear his mind. There were even things that I already knew, but was happily reminded. One thing I noticed was how happy he seemed. Whenever I see him in class or around other people, he just looks disinterested and aloof. He has walls built up for whatever reason. But with me? He asked questions. He engaged in my nonsense responses. He didn't scoff or stay silent. He smiled like he meant it. I like to think he feels safe with me.
"I'll see you later," he sighed with a smile. He had actually walked me to the door this time. I'm not sure what changed, but I really liked it.
"Just hit me up anytime," I winked.
