1. Waking up

I woke up to the sounds of my own screams of agony.
There wasn't a single piece of my body not in pain.
What happened?
I tried to open my eyes but the lights around me were too bright.

"Help?! Ow, someone help me! It hurts so bad..."

My voice, and screams, sounded distorted and hoarse.
Not at all like my own.
I heard a door open and the sounds of footsteps approaching fast.

"Hush, hush it's going to be okay. You're going to be okay. I give you something for the pain and to sleep. When you wake up again you'll feel better, I promise. You're in the hospital, everything's going to be just fine."

While the gentle male voice spoke those words I felt myself drifting back into a soothing slumber.
This was nice, like a warm blanket, far away from the torture I felt waking up.

《Unknown amount of time later.》

Slowly I started to wake from my slumber by a humming sound.
A lullaby?
I felt something warm and wet rubbing against my arm, followed by something soft and fluffy.
It took me some time before I could open my eyes and see what was going on.
A wash cloth?
A towel?
I felt so tired, still drunk from my slumber.
I tried to focus on the white jacket standing next to the bed, but it was so hard to keep my eyes focused on one point.

"Good morning gorgeous. How are you feeling today? Any pains, discomforts? If so, let me know and I'll ask the doctor to give you something."

I wanted to answer, I really did, but instead I felt myself drift to sleep again.

"Awn so cute. Sweet dreams, gorgeous..."

《Unknown amount of time later.》

I woke up to a beeping noise, when I opened my eyes it was dark in the room.
The feeling of cotton balls in my head was starting to disappear and I felt like I had some energy to look around.
There was an iv sticking out both my hands and when I looked up I saw a small light on the machine flashing.
Looking up a bit higher at the bags I figured it meant one of the iv bag was almost empty.
I lifted my arms to feel around my body only to find out most of it was wrapped up in bandages and it hurt a bit to move.

The door opened and a familiar voice welcomed me, he's been in my room before.

"Hey gorgeous, are you finally awake? How do you feel? Are you hungry?"

"I could eat yes, thank you."

A dark friendly figure approached me.
I couldn't really see what he looked like in the shimmering light of the room and he didn't bother to turn on the lights when he changed the iv bags on both sides with smaller ones.
He pushed some buttons on the machine and turned his attention back to me.

"If you still feel like this in the morning I will remove one of the iv's. Now I'll be right back with something light for you to eat."

It didn't take long for him to return with two crackers covered with strawberry jam and a cup of tea.
The only light in the room was still coming from the hall giving my eyes some time to adjust to just being open.

"I'm Brian by the way, I'm your personal nurse for as long as you're here. If you have any discomforts please let me know and I'll see what the doctor and I can do about it."

"Nice to meet you, I'm... uhm... I'm..."

That's odd... it's on the tip of my tongue.
Why can't I remember my name?

"That's okay, gorgeous. It's normal after head trauma to have some amnesia. I'm sure it will come back to you soon enough."

"Brian? What happened to me?"
