-Lacey-

I skipped along the pebbles as my Grandmas' talked and watched me. I turned around and looked at the water. I got closer and fell into the water. "Lacey!" Grandma Lena and Stef screamed as Grandma Stef ran to catch me and picked me up.

"What are you doing?" Grandma Stef asked as she carried me to where Grandma Lena was with a towel and quickly wrapped me.

"The water looked crystal clear!" I said in admiration and they both giggled. I smiled as Grandma Lena took a snap on her iPhone.

"You are so much like your daddy." Grandma Lena whispered as she poked my nose and I giggled. She looked down at her watch with a sad smile. "I got to get back to work."

"And we have to get you bathed again, Missy." Grandma Stef said as Grandma Lena got up and I stood up. "Before Mama sees you. She is probably think I have gone nuts after this." I shrugged then gave Grandma Lena a big hug.

"I love you!" I said as Grandma Lena kissed my head.

"I love you too slugabug." And off she went after kissing Grandma Stef. And we walked back home.

-

"Mama! Daddy!" I screamed as I saw their car in the driveway. I ran to the door hopping to my foot to another in excitement. Daddy and Mama came in looking sad. "Hello!" And Mama sadly smiled at me as she gave me a hug. Grandma Stef came out and hugged Mama who bursted into tears. Daddy picked me up and took me outside.

"Could you play with Rodger?" He whispered and I shrugged as my little dog came running towards me. "Please. Mama, Daddy and Grandma Stef need to have a talk."

"Is Mama okay?" I asked with a frown and Daddy nodded.

"She will be okay." He said and kissed my cheek. And he stood up and walked inside leaving the door slightly open. I turned around and sat on the stairs hugging Rodger.

-Callie-

"I got cancer, Mummy." I cried softly into her chest as she rubbed circles around my back. "I am going to die before my little girl grows up."

"You aren't going to die." Mum said as her grip got tighter. "You will get through this." Brandon walked in slowly and I followed his breathing once he knew I was having a panic attack.

-

"How am I meant to explain cancer to Lacey?" I whispered as we sat around the table with mugs of coffee. "Hey Lace, I have cancer?"

"We will just say that you are sick and need medicine that only the hospital can give you." Brandon suggested softly and I looked down at my coffee.

"Yeah and Mama could look really sick and weak. But, no worries because medicine is meant to help her and she will get better." I said in a fake cheerful mood. Brandon rolled his eyes and Mum gripped my hand.

"Take this in, Callie." Mum whispered as I looked at her blue eyes. "There is no award for being the bravest. You are allowed to break down."

"Well, I can't just break down!" I cried out like it was a ridiculous idea for her to suggest this. "I have to be strong for my little girl. If she sees me breakdown, she will... She... She won't talk to me."

"I can admit that she will have troubles to realize how sick you are. And how sick you will look. She will be scared and upset just like you are right now." Brandon whispered softly. "But, she will never stop loving you and needing you, Callie. You are her Mama. The person she will always go to if she needs comfort. She wants you."

"Mama.." A little cracked voice cried out as we see Lacey appear from behind the counter. "You...you sick?" I quickly looked at Brandon who nodded. I opened my arms out and she ran into them. I picked her up and handing her a choc chip cookie, taking her smell in. She smelt of strawberry shampoo that she loves to used.

"Baby, I am sick." I whispered and she looked at me then placed her hand onto my forehead.

"You don't feel hot..?" Lacey whispered and I laughed sadly at her innocence and cuteness.

-Lacey-

I looked at her in confusion and she looked sad. "Sweetie, I am really sick."

"Well, why don't you go to bed and sleep?" I whispered with a nod. "I will sleep with you too!"

"It isn't that simple, Lacey." Mama said as tears started to fall down her eyes. "I am really sick inside that sleep won't fix."

"Okay, then take some potions!" I said with a smile. (a/n potions was a fun way to describe medicine.)

"I will be going to hospital for a long time to take potions." Mama said with a nod. "It is going to be a long time until I get to be back here healthy."

"Why so long?!" I cried out now feeling more distressed about not having Mama around.

"Mama has a thing called cancer." I looked at Daddy with wide eyes with confusion. "It is something very serious, baby. And Mama needs to go to hospital so she can get better so she can be the best Mama she can for you." I looked at Mama.

"She doesn't look sick!" I protested and Mama bursted into tears. She pulled me againest her but I struggled until she let go of me. I jumped down and she looked at me.

"Lacey.." She whispered as tears streamed down her and my eyes. I shook my head and ran as fast as I could to my room. "LACEY!" I heard footsteps trying to catch up but I hid quickly. "Lacey, please. Just try to understand that I am still going to be here." I curled up in a ball and cried. Mama can't leave me. I felt a body next to me and heard Mama's heartbeat. "I am still here, baby. And I won't ever leave you like you may think."

"Promise?" I whispered and it was just silence. Then, I heard a sigh. "You are going to leave me..." I struggled out of her grip. "Let me go!"

"Lacey!" Mama cried out again softly. "I can't promise I will be here forever. Promise to live forever is the worst promise and I am not willing to break any promise with you."

"You are leaving me!" I yelled then ran out of being under the bed then ran around until I felt exhaustion and ended up falling asleep in Mama's walk in wardrobe.

-Callie-

I looked at my little sleeping baby and held my heart. It was aching so hard. I used my finger to wipe the remaining tear from Lacey's cheek. I then pulled my college jumper over here and blew a kiss at Lacey and planted it on her cheek. "Sleep this through baby. I will stay as long as I can keep breathing. I will always be here. Memories don't die."
