I rubbed the sleep out of eyes and looked into the wardrobe but Lacey was gone but her teddy was there that I gave her to make her feel closer to me because it was mine when I was little. I walked down stairs and saw her curled up on the lounge watching morning cartoons with her bottle of milk. I lend against the wall and saw her watch Micky Mouse. "Hey." Brandon whispered as he held me from behind as I tightened my grip on the teddy. "How is the lump going?"

"It hurts a little but not as much as Lacey not talking to me." I whispered sadly and he nodded.

"She needs time to process this like we need time to process this." Brandon said as he took me into the kitchen. "In the meantime, eat some breakfast." I nodded as Mariana came in.

"Hey!" She greeted us grabbing an apple and giving me a hug. "Lacey still not talking to you?"

"She will come around." Jude chirped as he came in from the backyard and I smiled. He hugged me then Mariana.

"She is my little girl and I miss her already. It's hard on me to see her so upset." I whispered and they all nodded.

I stared blankly at the t.v. I sensed Mama near me watching me but I ignored her. I got up once Auntie Mariana walked past and went upstairs to find Grandma Stef. "Lace!" She greeted me surprised as she chucked the last dirty laundry in the washing machine. She put it on and picked me up. "How is my little slugabug going?" I shrugged as I put my arm around her neck.

"Can I come?" I whispered softly and she looked at me with concern in her eyes.

"I think you need to stay with your Mama.." She whispered and I shook my head. "And why not?"

"She doesn't like me." I said as I folded my arms stubbornly. She placed me on her bed and sat next to me.

"She adores you. You are her little baby girl!" Grandma Stef exclaimed softly as she looked into my eyes.

"Not anymore." I whispered looking away from Grandma Stef's eyes sadly. I hopped off the bed and ran to my room. I slammed the door and drew on the wall angrily.

I walked upstairs with Jude and decided to check on Lacey. I opened the door and walked in seeing drawings on the wall and Lacey who just sat there with a blank face. "Lacey?" Jude whispered as he went over and placed her in his lap as tears fell down her eyes not leaving mine. "Talk to us." She opened her mouth and closed it again. She wouldn't stop looking at me. She was 5 years old but I am kind of scared now.

"Forever?" She asked with a sigh. "I thought I was your little girl? Why not you want me, Mama!" Now, I understood where she was coming from. She thinks I am abandoning her and I don't want her because I am sick. I fell down on my knees because they got weak.

"Baby, that isn't true." I pleaded with her as tears fell down my eyes. "I want you. You are my daughter. I would never leave you. Not if I can help it." She looked at me with a broken frown as Jude rubbed her back.

"You wouldn't promise!" She screamed and I flinched. "You hate me.. Daddy!" She screamed louder and louder for her Daddy. Brandon came running in and Lacey cried into his chest. I held her teddy into my chest and cried as Jude hugged me.

I cried until I stopped. I whimpered then it became silence. I sucked my thumb for comfort until Daddy took it out. I looked over at Mama who was holding my teddy. I walked over and she looked at me hopeful. I took the teddy and kissed it. "Mama needs potions. Not me." I whispered and shook my head. I walked outside and went to watch t.v. I don't mean to push Mama away. I know she loves me. But, if what they said was true before I interrupted then I need to be prepared to lose the person who means the most to me.. Because it is easier than to pretend that she will live.
