I 𝟢𝟢𝟣 max is bisexual. this is something she doesn't really fully discover or come to terms with until her twenties and when she looks back, it explains a lot of things from her childhood. she had never been quite unfamiliar with having girl crushes, she just always assumed it had been in complete admiration whether than perhaps slight attraction sometimes.II 𝟢𝟢𝟤 utterly terrified of all spiders. no matter shape or size or species, max is actually surprisingly horrified of spiders. she would never admit this until she is screaming and forcing someone to kill one for her. these are really the only insects she minds, the rest are just kind of disgusting but fine. this is her one conventionally "girly-girl" trait and she does not live up to it.
III 𝟢𝟢𝟥 she always wanted a sister. she didn't want her mom to have more kids or anything like that, and getting remarried and gaining an asshole stepbrother was definitely not max's plan either, she just always wished she had an older, cool sister to look up to and spend time with. this wasn't something she could really just gain overnight, so she just made her up, kind of like an imaginary friend. her imaginary friend then came to life in 1984 when max met nancy wheeler.
IV 𝟢𝟢𝟦 obsessed with tamagotchi pet. despite being considered out of the target age range for the virtual pet companion tamagotchi, after it came to the market in 1996, a twenty-five year old max mayfield still became obsessed with the little game. it was a random little thing that she loved and that just kept her busy, especially when she needed a break and just needed some sort of escape.
V 𝟢𝟢𝟧 not a roller skating fan. max was never particularly bad at roller skating when she would go; the coordination and balance was second nature after so many years of skateboarding. however, she just never really latched onto the idea of it and would never go out of her way to go to a rink. and it hurts her calves more.
VI 𝟢𝟢𝟨 triggered by ticking. it'd be kind of expected after everything she endured with vecna and the trauma associated, but the ticking of clocks— of any size and any volume of sound— will absolutely set max off. between a panic attack, a full blown ptsd flashback, a meltdown, or just a generally pissed off mood for the rest of the day, there is rarely a time she hears a clock like this and there is no effect— even however mild it may be.
VII 𝟢𝟢𝟩 can't look at clocks. hand in hand with the ticking trigger, looking at clock faces can quite literally cause her to spiral. it's not really optimal for needing to tell the time though and max is very grateful when digital clocks become a bigger thing— this she can handle, it is simply looking at a regular clock face that can literally make her thoughts descend into a paranoid spiral of reality.
VIII 𝟢𝟢𝟪 max is a nervous rambler. when she gets comfortable with people and past her aloof antisocial front she puts up to gauge trustworthiness of people, it's not secret that max can definitely be a talker. however, when she's stressed or has nervous energy, this seems to amplify quite a bit— especially if she feels like she's done something wrong or that an awkward silence may be at bay. she just starts talking and explaining herself and she doesn't stop.
IX 𝟢𝟢𝟫 she uses a cane. following her attack from vecna, it's unclear and undecided if max ever regains her sight. however, her bones remain brittle and fragile and even with physical therapy, she is not at the level of mobility as she used to be. when she is out of a wheelchair, she consistently uses a cane recommended my her physical therapist and doctors to help her get around, and pretty much uses it on bad days or long trips for the rest of her life.
X 𝟢𝟣𝟢 thanks kate bush. while it was steve the dingus' idea, max actually ends up obliging with what he suggested and she writes a letter to kate bush. this is after everything with the upside down actually completely settles down for the last time and she details in her letter to kate how max's favorite song 'running up that hill' quite literally saved her life. a response from the singer? unknown.
XI 𝟢𝟣𝟣 very poor mental health. while it's obvious that max is not super mentally healthy and has a lot of mood issues and mental illness signs especially following billy's death, she specifically suffers from a few mental illnesses. depression is a big one and a dead giveaway, as well as ptsd. with the ptsd, max experiences flashbacks and can also find herself zoning out into moments her flashbacks take ahold of. with this also comes her frequent nightmares and often even night terrors. additionally, it is quite clear that max has strong survivor guilt from her stepbrother's gruesome death. she develops anxiety and paranoia later in life as well, as a result of her time in hawkins and encounters with the upside down.
