ACQUAINTANCES ( unlimited ) due to her seeming abrasive and aloof personality, max doesn't easily make what she would describe as friends. she struggles to trust enough to really give that relationship to most people. however, those who seem decent and who she can tolerate, she doesn't completely mind speaking to and interacting with. they are nowhere near close, but they could be considered something like casual friends. or, acquaintance. mildly selective.

ENEMIES ( unlimited ) on the contrary, if max can't tolerate or trust someone enough to consider them a "casual friend" or an acquaintance, they're immediately an enemy. this comes with interaction where she decides she can't stand a person enough that they are actively enemies and constantly out to get each other, in one way or another. there is a gray area between acquaintances and enemies of max, mostly for people she doesn't really know or is indifferent towards, and enemies are far out of this gray area. not selective.

FRIENDS ( 0 / 10 ) max does actually have the ability to trust people and get close enough to truly call them her friends. she probably isn't able to spend every waking moment of the day with them, but she cares for them and enjoys their company. she wouldn't be against spending time with them in the arcade once a week or going skating around town or to the movies. that is the extent of her relationship with those she calls friends though. slightly selective.

CLOSE FRIENDS ( 0 / 5 ) nobody would ever hear it from her as max is far from the affectionate type, but there are people she deeply cares about and could probably actually tolerate spending a decent amount of time with. they probably are together quite often anyway and these are people she would surely risk her life for. they would all receive her pre-vecna letters. selective.

SIBLINGS ( 1 / 5 ) max has one real sibling and she refuses to even call him that. however, there are elders in her life who have stepped up and shown care and love for her and while their overprotectiveness is endlessly annoying, she appreciates it deeply and adores these people. she looks up to her sibling figures and they definitely influence her desires and behaviors in more ways than one. in steve's case, maybe she'd even call him mom ( as a joke ). selective.
BEST FRIENDS ( 1 / 3 ) max would lay her life on the line without hesitation for those she calls her best friend. it is hard to break down max's distrustful and abrasive layers, but she is a fun social butterfly underneath, and calls it her life's work to make sure she is the life of the party for her best friends. she cares about them deeply and would do anything — literally without limitation them. platonic soulmates for sure, her happiest memories are always with these. very selective.
LOVERS ( 0 / 2 ) while she shows her love for her best friends much more easily, max does reserve romantic love for very few people. she is far from an affectionate partner and may honestly seem a bit disinterested or indifferent in romantic relationships. such strong feelings of love terrify her and she doesn't really know how to comprehend them. nonetheless, they are there and she can't always seem to ignore how much she loves and cares, even if she outwardly ignores it and would never put on those kinds of emotions. very selective.
