I saw a cow in a harness. They were feeding the raptors in there. "They should all be destroyed." A voice behind us said. I whipped around and saw a man in a safari outfit leaning on the wall. "Muldoon, Robert Muldoon. Our game expert from Kenya." I gave a small wave and then turned back to the cow. "What are they doing?" I heard Ellie ask. "Feeding them. We have to do it this way because the big one had them attacking the fences." He said. "Aren't they electric?" Ellie asked him "Yes but they never attack the same place twice. They are testing it systematically for weaknesses. They remember. There were originally 8 but when she got here she killed all but two. Now when she looks at you, you can tell she is working something out." "What's their metabolic rate? How fast to the mature." My dad asked. I listened to this part. This was one of the few things we didn't know and couldn't know just based on bones. "They are lethal at 8 months and I mean lethal. I have hunted almost everything that can kill you but nothing like how these guys hunt." They pulled the harness up, well really I should say what was left of the harness. "Let us go to lunch ourselves," John said.
We were set in a room that was all black and had projectors on almost every wall. None of them were hungry yet and John was going on about the plans for the park. "Gee. the lack of humility before nature that's being displayed here, um, staggers me," Ian said. " Well, thank you, Dr. Malcolm, but I think things are a little different than you and I feared," Donald said. "Yeah, I know. They are a lot worse." Ian shot back. "Now wait a second we haven't even seen the park yet, and you-" He tried saying but he was cut off by John. "No Donald let him talk. I want to hear every viewpoint, I do." He gestured for Ian to continue and I gave Ian my full attention. "Yeah. Don't you see the danger, uh, here John, Inherent in what you're doing here? Genetic powers are the most awesome force the planets ever seen and yet you are wielding it like a child who found his father's gun!" Donald tried shutting down Ian again but he stammered slightly and continued.
"If I may. Um, I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here. Uh, you didn't require any discipline to attain it. You know you read what others had done and you took it to the next step. you didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility..for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunch box," He started to bang on the table as he continues so I put my hand on his shoulder soothingly. It seemed to calm him down even if it was just a little bit. "And now you're selling it. You wanna sell it? Well-" "I don't think you are giving us our due credit. Our scientists have done things which nobody's done before." John said cutting him off. But Ian continued. "Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think about if they should." He said matter of factly. Then John went on about Condors. "Well they haven't been separated by millions of years of evolution like the dinosaurs here have been. I mean these guys will protect themselves, dangerously, if they have to. We have no idea what their ecosystems were like. You use poisonous plants because they look good. These poor creatures have no clue what century they are in" I interjected. "Ms. Grant How can you out of the four of you not be on my side? I mean we are standing in the light of discovery and you are saying for us to just not act? I can't believe that the only one on my side here is the bloodsucking lawyer!"
Someone came up and whispered something in John's ear and he stood up. "They are here." I looked at Ian, and only then did I realize my hand was still on his shoulder. He must have realized this too because before I could move my hand he ever so gently placed his hand on mine. We got up and followed John outside and back to the main lobby room. ''You guys are going to spend a little time with our target audience." When he said that a couple of kids yelling 'grandpa' came running in. "We missed you." They called and I smiled at them and their grandfather. Maybe he was a businessman man but he seemed like an alright grandfather. "You like kids?" Ian asked. I guess he saw my smile, I nodded at him. "Adore them, I am just waiting a little while to have my own. I think 20 is a little too young to have kids. Well, I mean my father had me when he was 23 and he seems to be doing fine." I shook my head a little "Still, I want to wait a few years." I looked up at Ian ''What about you?" I asked him. He nodded frantically and I laughed at his giddiness. "I love them. I don't have any but my sister does. She has three, the oldest Kelly, we spend a lot of time together." I smiled at him "Married or anything?" He smirked at me "Sometimes, When I was younger I was on the hunt for the next ex Mrs. Malcolm but now, not so much. Now I think I want to settle down, maybe have a kid of my own someday." He finished with a smile. I smiled back.
We have led to a couple of cars and the little boy followed my dad around like a little lost puppy. Ellie Ian and I walked and got into one of the cars. Ellie got in the passenger front. Ian and I took the seats in the back. Dad walked over to the other car and then both of the kids followed him. Finally, he left them with the lawyer and he got in the front driver's seat. He shot me a strange look but then turned to face the front. I look at Ian and whisper, "He doesn't really like kids. I don't know why he kept me around for so long." y was surprised at that. "I can tell, but still he kept you because you're a wonderful person." I look at him and give him a warm smile. "Thanks," I said warmly. "For what? I was only speaking the truth, Lor." We look out the window and I hear Ian mutter "God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs, God creates man, Man destroys god, Man creates dinosaurs.-" I smile and glance at Ellie through the corners of my eyes. "Dinosaurs, eat man. Woman inherits the earth," I say and smile at Ian and then at Ellie. She smiled and I can see the other two boys turn their heads at me. I smile at Ian, "Can you explain the chaos theory more, I don't get it." I asked. I saw his face light up. "It's like the butterfly effect really, a butterfly could flap its wing in Perking, and in Central Park, you will get rain rather than the sun." I look at him with wide eyes and move my hand over my head. " I went a little too fast that's alright can you hand me one of those cups of water."
I nod at him and reach forward to grab a cup and sit back down. I however noticed the raised eyebrows, subtle smirk, and overall proud expression on his face. He was looking at my butt. I smile to myself and hand him the glass of water. "Ok lay out your hand like so." He showed me and I copied his actions as he set a finger into the glass of water. "We should do this on a flat surface and this car is a little bouncy but that's Ok If I let a drop of water fall onto your hand what way is it going to travel?" "Down my thumb." He nodded and let a drop of water fall on my hand. I watched as it rolled down the back of my hand. He rubbed the area dry and said. "Ok now if I do it again where will it go this time?" "Down the same way as the last one." He nodded and smirked at me. I watched as he stuck his finger back in the water and watched as he dropped it in the same place. I saw it roll down my fingers this time. I look up at him with wide eyes ''Wow" I whisper. He nods and smiles at me. "See what I mean. There is no way that we execute something the same way twice. Tiny variations. The orientation of the hairs on your hand, um, the amount of blood distending your vessels, imperfections of the skin." "Imperfections?" I ask teasingly. "Just microscopic, microscopic" He smiled once he knew I was only teasing him. "Chaos," I say. that makes him smile more.
