I was taking in all of the scenery while Ellie grabbed a leaf off a tree we were driving by. "This shouldn't be here." She kept going on and on about it until my dad stood up in the car. "Ellie, Lori. Look at this." I look up from my conversation with Ian to see what my dad was talking about. We were talking about different dino bones me and my dad found. It started when he asked me about my necklace. I have a matching raptor claw like my dad but I made mine into a necklace. I got up and looked in awe at the Brachiosaurus. I was flicking my hand around trying to find Ellie's head without looking away. I eventually slapped her head a couple of times. "Hey what did you do that for?" I pointed over in the direction we were looking in. She stood up and pulled off her sunglasses.
I could hear laughter from John at our reactions. Dad got out but he shut the door on me. So I grabbed the top of the cage like a car and swung over Ian and threw the window. "Woah" I could faintly hear him utter. I was running over to the dinos quickly passing my father. I heard him calling for me to not get too close and I knew that I really should listen to him at least this time. I stopped and then after a minute dad and Ellie stopped beside me. At one point it reached up to eat and pushed back on its hind legs. Dad and Ellie backed up a little bit but I was far enough away and so I didn't move. I was in awe. "How long are their necks 25, 27 feet?" "Dad it's a Brachiosaurus. 30 foot neck."
"How fast are they." Ellie asked "Well we clocked the trex speed at 32 mph." I looked at him with awe. "What did you say." I asked him. But I wasn't listening. I was about to pass out. I stumbled my way back to our little cars but I heard John start talking so I stopped. "Grants, Sattler. Welcome, To Jurassic Park." I nodded though I knew he couldn't see me and I carried on my way. Ian saw me looking pale I am sure and ran over to help me or make sure that I didn't fall over. "Hey, you alright Lori?" I nodded "Yeah," I said breathlessly "They just have a T rex here." I said, shaking my head. I saw Ellie and my dad walk over and get in the car. I got in but this time Ian was by dad and I was by the door. I guess he was going to show us how he did it. We got inside and there was a skeleton of a trex and I think a raptor fighting. Anyway John led us to a room that looked like a theater. I sat beside Ian and Ellie. John stood by the screen and another John came on the screen. We were told to say hi and we all did but Ian and I. We just waved but I mouthed the word hi, just no sound came out of my mouth. They were talking back and forth about how they did this through cloning and using the blood that prehistoric mosquitoes collected and how they had to drill it out of the amber. I couldn't believe it. Ian and my dad were talking about how many gaps there were in just blood to make a creature. Like the gaps in their DNA but then the lawyer shushed them. I looked back at him with a glare that could kill. "Nice kitty, easy kitty." Ellie said in my ear. That made Ian laugh before I nudged her shoulder slightly.
Then the bars came down and we turned. We were looking into the lab and we could see them doing the real magic. "Woah." I said and Ian looked at me with a smile. But this was not like the others, it seemed like he was smiling out of a fondness rather than mockery. We started to turn away and we all started to riot. On Ian's count of three we all shoved up the bars and we got out. John didn't protest, instead he led us into the lab. I walked over to a nest of sorts with some sort of machine that turns them. I was drowning everyone out at this point not hearing a single word that anyone was saying. Then one of the eggs started to move. It was hatching. "This one is hatching." I called out. What I didn't know was that everyone was already beside me. I heard some snickers and one full on laughter. The laughter that I was hearing was coming from my father surprisingly. I was thinking it was coming from Ian. He instead was silent and had that same fond look on his face. When I met his eyes he quickly looked away.
"I like to be here for the birth of all our animals. They imprint on the first thing they see. It helps them to trust me more." John said. "Well, surely not even the ones that are in the wild." Ian asked. "There is no unauthorized breeding here. It is one of our safety procedures." Dr. Wu said. "Well how can you be sure of that?" He asked again "Because all of our dinosaurs are female. We engineered them that way." "How do you make sure? You got someone looking up the dino skirts?" "We control their chromosomes. They are female at birth anyway they just have some hormones come in at the right stage and then that turns them male. We just deny them that. It's not that hard." The Doctor said. I walked over and stood a few steps away from Ian as my father was looking at the baby.
Ian went on his spiel about how Life will find a way. "So what you are saying, is that a group of all female dinos will breed?" The doctor asked. "No. I am just saying that life uh, finds a way." I walk over and rest my hand on the back of his chair behind his back. "No maybe he is right. I mean you said that you used the DNA of frogs to fill in the gaps right?" I asked and they all nodded. "Well some west african frogs are known to change male to female in single sex settings. What makes you so certain that the dinos can't do the same thing here. If they are all female and it was those frogs that make up their system, then Ian is right. They could find a way. Life will find a way." I finished slightly defending Ian's claim. "They won't do that." The doc claimed but I was not convinced at that. He didn't even sound sure of himself when he said that. He almost asked himself, it seemed. "What breed is this?" My father asked. "Raptors, those are baby raptors." I said and the doc nodded along. "Very well Ms. Grant how did you know?" He asked. "Oh please she could tell you everything about any dinosaur we know about." My father said, We were led out of the room and into the walkway beside some sort of enclosure. I wonder what lives here.
