As the town preps for Halloween, a high-scoring rival shakes things up at the arcade, and a skeptical Hopper investigates a field of rotting pumpkins.
As Will washed his hands, he met his reflection in the mirror, and smiled. He didn't look sick, he didn't look scared, and he didn't look gross.
He looked happy.
He was happy.
He was happy to be home.
And he hadn't felt anything weird or squirming inside of him since he came back, too. Sure, he was still very traumatized about the whole ordeal, but it was all behind him at the moment.
Right now, he was home. With his mom. With his brother. With his family.
Will smiled.
He pushed the knob on his sink and strolled back to the kitchen. He heard his mom and brother conversing with each other rather lively as he took his seat.
"Are you okay?" Joyce asked.
"Yeah, I'm great," Will replied happily.
"Mmm. Very good, Mom," Jonathan complimented his mother's food before continuing their previous conversation. "Hey, Mom. Did Will tell you about, uh, the game?"
"Oh, yeah!" Will remembered.
"No. What game?" Joyce asked.
"I threw a fireball at him and..." Will explained before imitating an explosion, "dead."
"Wait, what is... You mean, this is..."
"No, it's just Dungeons & Dragons."
"Dungeons & Dragons. Right."
"It's fun!"
And the Byers family continued to converse happily through their Christmas dinner as snow fell gently outside, their trauma now behind them as they once again settled into the once peaceful town that is Hawkins, Indiana.
\\ ONE YEAR LATER //
The arcade in San Diego, California was at quite its busiest during the Halloween season.
That's when all the new games would come in.
Currently, at 9:30 P.M., an hour before closing, kids and teens were flooding the arcade with excitement as they argued over who got to play the new games first. Now most of these players were boys.
But there was one girl.
A girl that everyone underestimated.
She was currently at one of the not-so-new games, Dig Dug, hard in focus. She had fiery red hair and ocean blue eyes. She was wearing a yellow hoodie over a blue shirt with blue jeans and red vans. She was tapping the buttons rapidly and moving the joystick in quite a smart and quick maneuver for the game. Eventually, she was met with the 'Game Over' screen, but she wasn't disappointed. Because for the listing of high scores, her name was at the top.
