II. DREAMS AND REALITY.

The sun slowly woke the entire Survey Corps with its rays.

The light tickled with difficulty the irises of a young woman, who fluttered her long black eyelashes with the help of her eyelids.

Her face was peaceful, adorned with beautiful grey eyes, and under one of them sat a scar. Her pale tone slightly accentuated the pink of her lips as her pointed but otherwise typical asian nose revealed her mixed background.

The night had not brought advice to this soldier, who, for some time, had not been able to sleep as much as before. Fatigue tried to keep her within its grasp with the help of its steel fangs, to make the woman give in and collapse.

The day was announcing itself not only without rain, but also strangely calm. Nobody had come to wake up the soldiers of the regiment, which was out of the ordinary, although without complaint. However, the young woman suspected that she knew why.

Erwin Smith.

Mikasa pulled out of the blankets, ready to start what she expected to be a restful day. All the same, the black-haired woman didn't want to drown in a deep sleep, craving time for herself.

Leaving her thin dormitory where a sleepy Sasha still resided, the woman let out a stifled sigh.

She took a gentle walk without anyone being able to predict or hear her steps, leaving behind a trail of her vanilla aroma. Descending many stairs, being just as discreet as before, the Ackerman went to the exit of the quarters.

When her goal was achieved, she could see that there was still no one to disturb her.

The green landscape was beautiful, flooded with a light from the star laying far from Earth. The woman's grey eyes wandered over the view, her raven hair occasionally mussing them as they danced in the wind.

The green expanse facing her was warm and inviting. The asian woman had the impression that the plants were making a promise to her, that all what happened there would remain secret, that everything would be without regret to her.

She heeded that call and made her way slowly, ignoring her current fears.

A strange feeling took control of her insides ― a sort of well being accompanied by uneasiness.

She looked up at the sky as if begging it to help her, to save her. She felt surrounded by the dead, not only because of the many lives lost on the battlefield, but also because of this new calm that was far too peaceful.

Mikasa found herself in a ghost castle, haunted by the remnants of memories, by the living dying. She felt the clock ticking, as if counting down to each of their losses. She saw the angel twirl around, the demon staring at her.

All spirits, leaving her alone with thoughts and hopes. The reaper was watching her, but she didn't know when would come her turn, when she would be extinguished.

Death had taken hold of their previous Commander, leaving the souls of all his followers to perish softly, like a crack steadily growing. Mikasa could clearly feel from the natural sounds of birds, from the blowing of the wind whispering advice to her, that there were no human beings present.

She walked, stopped, laughed.

The laughter was bitter, filled with pain, remorse and misery.

Memories gnawed at her, followed her wherever she went. Her parents, laying on a ground colored with a poignant red. Armin, laying on that roof during that horrific incident, and obviously, all those corpses or pleading people she had to pass and let go.
