I wish I were kept from dreaming,
For then I couldn't see,
Your smile as it is today,
Smiling still at me.
I wish my sleep laid in oblivion,
For then I couldn't hear,
Your tender voice call out my name,
Your laughter flying free.
I wish my inner thoughts would die,
So then I couldn't miss,
The golden nectar of your lips,
The sweetness of your kiss.
I curse my life for having loved and lost and yet,
Blessed for having met you.
My heart grows fonder day by day,
And yet,
Its break grows more in truth.
If I could dream at my last breath,
I'd want it to be you,
I'd want to hold you in my arms,
I'd want only to love you.
In shorter years have I beheld,
Regrets too great to number,
And yet in this single hour,
My heart grows only number.
I wish that I could kiss your lips,
I wish that I could hold you,
But by this meter and this verse,
My dream will have to thrive through.
