Jewel was still crying when Mr. James came home. He walked in to welcome her, but she just yell at him to get out. Jewel has already gotten her present for her birthday which was a new life that she didn't want. Mrs. James walked in to give her dinner, and it was her favorite meal, pancakes, eggs, and bacon all shaped as a smile face. She picked up the plate and found her way to the table where the James were eating the same dinner.

Jewel talked about what it is like to live in California and the James talked what it is like to live in a small town. It was 9:30 when Mrs. James told Jewel to go to bed because she had to go to school in the morning. She got into pj's and fell asleep. It was six when she woke up to Mr. James turning on the light. She got ready and when she got to the breakfast table was a bowl full of cereal and some bacon.

Then Jewel walked out with a book bag full of books and binders. A bus pulled up after two minutes of waiting and the driver asked for her name and grade. She just said her name and hold up nine fingers. There was about ten other kids on the bus and when she tried to sit in a spot, they would yell at her to move because some else sat there. After about two minutes of trying to find a spot, the driver yelled at her to sit and that was what Jewel did. She had sat down next to a guy who looked about her age. Jewel asked if anyone sat here but he said no. Then before Jewel could move the driver said that was where she will sit for the rest of the year. He asked her name and what grade and then she asked the same. His name was Finn and he was in the ninth grade. He asked where she was from and when she said California his eyes went wide. It reminded her when she went to New York once and all her cousins asked her if she has met any celebrities, luckily Finn asked none of that. Then the bus stopped at Liberty High School and all the students got off to head to their classes while she went the front office to get a map and her schedule.
