I'm back on the steps with my drink looking up to the sky. Relaxing, basking in the hot sun. BANG! I look up to see blood. She drags me away to the car and we leave in a hurry, leaving the mess behind.

I jump up gasping. What the hell is going on, why do I keep having this dream? It carries on from my memory so what if its all a memory? What if that boy actually killed his brother and I saw it?

At least I'm awake before breakfast for once and won't have to drag myself up, still half asleep.

I think about the dream all morning, trying to figure out if its real or not and why I haven't remembered it before. It's driving me crazy, I'm going to go mad trying to figure it out.

So mad I didn't even care about lunch. Right, left, right, as I trudged into the room and picked up the tray.

"Are you ok Andy? Andy?"

I looked around and realised I was daydreaming, not even eating my food, no wonder they were worried.

"What's wrong Andy?" Asked H.

I didn't really want to explain the whole thing, it would probably sound crazy, even here. So I went for a different approach. "Do you guys have any memories of before this place? Like of your parents or just what life was like".

H didn't remember anything which wasn't a surprise seeing as she couldn't even remember her name. But Carters eyes lit up at the question. "YES! I remember a few different things. My favourite is playing hide and seek with a lady, I think she was my mum.

"She had wavy, sandy blonde hair and she was short. I was small then but even I could tell how small she was. She laughed as she hid behind a doorframe and I ran up to her. She acted shocked and proud that I'd found her.

"And when it was my turn I stood right next to her and disappeared. I followed her around while she looked and then suddenly appeared again to scare her. She pretended to be scared before picking me up and throwing me in the air".

He looked genuinely happy as he recounted it and it almost made me forget why I was asking in the first place.

"What about you, Harley?" I asked, wanting to find out if there were more people that remembered their childhoods.

At first I wasn't sure if she was ignoring me or just didn't hear, but then she replied with a sigh. "Yea I remember one thing. I was in a room, sat on soft carpet with a doll house in front of me. It had these cute, little, fake curtains on each of the windows. I remember feeling a weird hotness in my hands but I ignored it. I went to touch the curtains and a small flame erupted from my finger and it set them on fire.

"It would have been fine, except I started crying because the curtains were ruined. I stomped my feet and started throwing the little dolls and that was when the entire doll house caught fire. A man ran in shouting and an older boy ran in right after holding an extinguisher. They put it out and the man grabbed me by my shoulders speaking to me. He looked concerned but I can't remember what he said. Sometimes I try to remember".

I didn't know what to say. Harley had never spoke that much or revealed even a slither of anything personal. But what shocked me even more was the fact their memories seemed very similar to mine. But I still wasn't sure if the second half of my dream was real.

"So we had our powers as small children?" I asked, mostly speaking to Carter as Harley seemed to be done sharing for the day.

He made a face as if it was obvious. "Well yea that's why we're here. Even though we're some of the few people left in the world they don't want kids with special abilities wondering around. They don't want us ruining the last attempt at keeping humans alive. We're immature and dangerous". He said the last bit rolling his eyes.

I was so confused on how Carter knew all this information so I took it one question at a time.

"Ok so if we had powers and didn't realise, could someone get, you know, killed from us? By accident". I don't think that was as subtle as I wanted but I've said it now.

"Yea of course, that's how it started. People got hurt so they rounded us up".

He said it so matter of factly I had to take a minute to make sure I heard right. "How do you know all this?"

He shrugged, "I speak to the other kids when I'm in the line for food. And then fill in the blanks with common sense".

If we could have a normal life I would hope carter could be my little brother. He's got to be the smartest kid in here despite being one of the youngest. I think life would be happy around Carter.

But I look over to the actual youngest kid in the room and I suddenly need to ask something else. They can't be any older than five, but from the marks on the wall I've been here over five years. So she wouldn't have even been born when the disaster happened.

"Hey Carter, could I ask one more question?" He nodded so I carried on. "The small kid over there, how is it that they're here? They're too young for it to be possible".

He followed my eye line to the child. "Oh that's Harriet, she doesn't say much but she did say she was hiding with her family when someone took her away".

This is amazing! She was born from the survivors. "Does that mean there could be other kids out there with powers who are free and with their parents?"

"I guess so", he said. "Although there probably aren't many, it would be hard to hide around so few people".

"What's with all the questions?", H suddenly butted in, making me remember we're still in the cafeteria. "Why are you so interested in all this. All the time we've known you, you've never cared about anything. Does this have something to do with the mute boy?!" She asked quite aggressively.

"It's Jamie. And no", I defended. "I just had a dream and was confused about it".

I saw Carter shoot his head up out the corner of my eye. "What was it?" He asked excitedly, but that was when the guards told us to go back to our cells. I'm glad because I didn't want to tell him but if I want to know more information I would probably have to eventually.
