Before the abuse and the divorce, Rose could describe it as the most amazing time of her life. She was very happy, but now all she felt was like she was losing control of her feelings, of her emotions, of her entire life.
She believed that 25% of the control of her life was won when she showed her real feelings to Fezco and spoke the truth to me, another 25% she thought she gained because of her new life with her mother in East Highland with her new relationships and out of her father's life. The remaining 50% of control was lost because of her father, her uncle, and Nate.
Rose lost about 10% of her control once Fezco determined to end their relationship by saying it would never work.
- Rose, come on. It's obvious it's not going to work, I don't even know if it's working right now. - Fezco explained to the girl, who had tears in her eyes.
She had only been back for a few hours and had already received bad news. Rose was so happy to finally be back in town to talk to Fezco and his friends.
- I'm sorry. - He finished by making Rose instantly leave the place, leaving Fezco upset with his own decision.
Nate's words had impacted Fezco's feelings so much that he was so blind in not realizing that Nate had only manipulated him.
Rose didn't understand at all what came to lead Fezco to finalize what they had. She came to the conclusion that it was probably her fault and that she had done something wrong.
- You have to focus on yourself, Rose. - The girl could hear Angel's voice circling her room. - You told me that you always tried to be good to your father even after what happened to you, you tried to be good to some boys, to be good to some friends, all you do is try to be good to the people around you and you forget to be good to yourself. You don't have control of your life and yourself, so the least you should do is forget about the people around you and focus on you. The girl had never realized that she tried so hard to appear perfect to people, she tried too hard that in the end she got nothing.
Rose spent the whole day rethinking what her friend had told her, she realized that she should have the same control that she found the day she went to New York. As much as that situation with her uncle and father had happened, other than that day was the only day after years that she felt confident and in control.
She walked every day to get as far away from her family as possible and in those moments she felt happy with Angel and alone.
She needed that control in her life.
Rose decided to forget everything that happened that day and went straight to the hospital to see her friend Rue who was going through a problem. What she didn't know was that at that moment she would understand why Fezco had said that.
- Yes, Fezco threatened Nate because I asked him to on Jules' behalf, since I knew he was doing something against her. Only I ended up bringing more trouble since you finished what you had and the police went to Fez's house because of an anonymous tip. - Rose listened to everything her friend said in silence without knowing what to say.
And it was then that Rose understood completely.

Standing in front of the school in her car, Rose looked once more in the rearview mirror to check her appearance. Tonight was prom night and she couldn't be more bored for this night. It seemed that this year's festivities started at the top but started going down like a roller coaster. There was always some reason to break up her festive mood and that night it was Nate.
She took a deep breath to calm herself and got out of the car and headed towards the school entrance like other teenagers did. Usually she had some date, like her friends or some guy, but that night she wanted to be alone by herself. This was a start of pleasing herself since in the previous proms everyone expected her to be with someone and at the end of the night become the prom queen with her date.
Entering the decorated and crowded gym it took her a while to find the table with her friends. When she arrived at the table, the atmosphere seemed a little strange since Rose and Maddy hadn't spoken for a while. Without wanting to say anything, Rose hugged Maddy affectionately and whispered "I missed you", making Maddy reciprocate.
- I love you and hate you at the same time. - Rose said, and they parted and smiled at each other. Rose's attention soon switched to Rue and Jules. - Jules, you must be a miracle for Rue finally to get ready and not be wearing a red sweater. - Everyone at the table started to laugh at the girl's remark. - Are you okay? I feel like I haven't seen you in a while? - she asked Cassie after hugging her.
- I'm fine.
While Rose was away, Cassie discovered that she was pregnant by Chris McKay. She tried to contact her friends to tell them what she had found out, but on the day she was about to do that, the situation turned to a Maddy fight between Kat, she didn't get the chance and so left it alone. Only Lexi and her mother knew the news and stood by her in her decision to abort.
As much that Cassie talked about how she was fine, she was not. Her relationship with McKay was bad and she had never thought that she would experience pregnancy.
Cassie decided never to tell Rose and her friends about the baby and the abortion.
Rose greeted everyone else with a hug and soon sat down next to Maddy holding her hand. The girls talked for a while, Rue and Jules went back and forth to the bathroom and then asked Rose to dance, which she didn't refuse.
Their gazes shifted to Nate who was on the other side of the dance floor with an unknown blonde. Rue started a new dance by raising her two middle fingers to the boy making Rose and Jules follow her steps and keep dancing. Rose stopped dancing after a few songs when she saw Nate leaving, she excused herself to the girls who were confused but went back to dancing normally ignoring her friend's action.
- Nate. Weird seeing you here, since you know what you did to Maddy. I thought they arrest bullies.
- I'm not a bully. - He denied it with his hands in his pockets.
- Of course you're not. - She said sarcastically. - I want to asking you a question. Why may you be the reason that Fezco broke up with me? - Nate smiled mischievously as he understood that it had worked out.
- He was never going to make you happy, of course.
- Well, instead of you, he made me happy in less than a week, but you never did. - The boy's smile began to fall
That was a lie. No matter how asshole Nate is, he did make her happy. For a short time, but he did. Rose was trying to affect Nate, and it worked.
- You're never going to make anyone happy, Nate. Do you know why? - She went on.
- You do? - he asked without any interest.
- Because not even you are happy. How can someone like you, someone with a shitty childhood, a child-abusing father, be happy?
I told her this the night I was in the hospital. Rose stared for a while in silence as she absorbed the information, but in the end she knew that it could be used against Nate if he tried anything else against Rue, Fezco or her.
- You have a shitty family. Your whole life is shit, Nate. - Silence for a minute - Just a warning, if you come any closer to me, Rue, Jules, Fezco, Maddy or anyone else, I won't hesitate to tell you what your father does, I have nothing to hide, now you... And one more thing. - She came close to his ear. - I'll always regret dating you. - She left the room, leaving Nate fighting back tears.
Almost no one had left Nate in that state, only his father and now Rose.
Back inside the school, Roseanne walked down the hallway until she reached the court where the festivities were taking place. She walked through the crowd of partying teenagers and soon sat back down at her desk where there were only Cassie and Lexi. Maddy was dancing with a stranger, Rue and Jules simply disappeared and Kat was finally showing her feelings for Ethan.
Rose watched the scene around her with a smile on her face, it seemed that everything was starting to look good again. As happy as she was with the current situation, her mind belonged to one person.
For the first time, Rose felt that she was beginning to take control of her life. She was no longer afraid of doing something against Nate, she and I were back to being friends as well as she and Maddy but there was still something that bothered her. The fact that she didn't have Fezco in her life even as a friend.
