Naomi
I sat at my kitchen island twiddling the card in between my fingers as I bit my lip.
I examined the brown-skin man on the card. All his teeth were white and lined up perfectly, his hair was freshly cut and kept, and his suit looked so new that I bet it still had that store smell. He screamed money.
"Gurl juss call him." Kimberly jumped off the couch dragging her self to my fridge.
Kim was my home girl and was my roommate my freshman year. We got close and now she is kinda like my best friend without the title. We do and go everywhere together and she was really there for me here recently.
"But what if they aren't looking for a college drop out?" I rubbed my temples in frustration.
"Nae it says "help needed" now you know their desperate, let's see how badly they need their help." She closed the fridge eating my fruit.
"Yea I guess you're right." I let out a deep breathe. "And look at that man mm!" She jumped looking at the card again.
I laughed grabbing my phone. "Very much in love with Keemy but I'll make sure to put in a good word for you." I began dialing the number.
The phone rang 3 times before I was sent to an automated voice.
"Hi welcome to Green Real Estates where the grass is always greener. Please hold one moment while we wait for a employee to be with you. Have a great day." I was then put on hold as elevator music started playing.
"Okay girl imma head out." Kim put the fruit back before coming and hugging me.
"Good luck!" "Thank you." She put on her shoes at the door before leaving making me be alone.
"Hi Green Real Estates. This is Shauna speaking how can I help you today?" A sweet voice rang through the phone.
"We Hi my name is Naomi Sanders and I was wondering if I could get in for an interview."
"Great okay may I ask you for your age?"
"I'm 20 years old. I'll be 21 in 2 months. February 14th." I smiled as if she could see me.
"Aw your a valentines baby how cute." She gushed typing on a computer.
"Okay we can get you in for a quick general meeting tomorrow at noon just to feel you out and then we can see if you are ready to interview with Mr. Green and see where he puts you."
"Okay great."
"Do you have the address?"
"Yes ma'am thank you!" I set the card down seeing the address under the number.
"Of course have a great day!" She said before the call dropped.
I smiled setting my phone down.
This is perfect! All I need to do is show them that I want this and will work super hard to get to where I wanna be.
My phone started ringing breaking me out of my thoughts. I looked down to see Hakeem FaceTiming me.
I quickly answered smiling like an idiot all in the camera.
"Hey baby guess what." I gushed seeing him sweating in a car. From the looks of it he had just left from the gym.
"Hey wassup?" He wiped his face drinking a protein drink.
"I got an interview with the card you gave me." I smiled waving around the card.
"Wow baby that's great!" He smiled before quickly looking over and going on mute before coming off and looking back at me.
"Who are you with?" My smile faded looking around at his surroundings.
"Uh no one, just Mark. We worked out together." He said quickly. I expected him to show him or for Mark to say something but it stayed silent.
I felt suspicious but decided to let it go.
"Okay well I just wanted to tell you." I looked around from the camera feeling my mood be ruined.
"What's wrong? Aren't you excited?" He said.
"Yea." I said blandly.
"Want me to come over."
"Nah stay with Mark." I said looking back in the camera.
"Awl shit hear we go." He sighed.
For the past 3 weeks I've had this feeling that there is someone else and everytime I try to tell him he shuts me out or makes me feel dumb. It hurts especially because he time he does that it makes me believe I'm more and more right.
"I have nothing to say." I shrugged.
"Ight bro." He set up his phone not showing the driver seat.
"I know it's 'Ight' " I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Don't start Naomi. You happy stay that way." He rubbed his temples.
"I know I- you know what your right imma just enjoy this. "
"Right."
"Okay well I gotta go I love you." I gave a slight smile.
"Alright talk to you later."
"Bye-"
"Bye." He hung up quickly.
