The strong scent of metal filled the atmosphere around me, making me wince in surprise. I shot my head up, not remembering when I fell asleep in the first place. I open my eyes to nothing. A black void filled my vision, making me feel the need to blink several times. Did I go blind?
I turn my head too quickly, immediately feeling a sharp knotting pain in my neck.
"Ah-" I groan, rubbing the back of my neck.
Before panicking, I find myself taking in my surroundings. My back was resting against something cold and smooth. A wall. I raise my hand above my shoulder, feeling the wall behind me. It was ice cold, causing my fingers to retract back.
Using my hands to support my weight, I lift myself up, staying as close to the wall as possible to avoid getting lost. The room could be as large as a theater or as small as a closet. I had no idea.
I cautiously ran my fingers along the stone-cold wall, trying to get a sense of how big the space was. My hand stopped at what felt like a corner, restarting in a new direction. Then, there was another corner. And another. Four walls. Not once did I feel a door or a window of some sort.
I was trapped in a box.
I let out a shaky breath, trying to remember how I got here.
Remember.
I furrowed my eyebrows in frustration after nothing clouded in my mind. It was empty. Where am I? How did I get here? Who took me here? When did I fall asleep?
What can't I remember anything?
My breaths began to quicken as I lost my balance, slowly sliding down the wall nearest to me. I brought my knees up to my chest, slowly rocking myself side to side. Strands of hairs fell over my forehead. I ran my fingers through my hair in curiosity.
The strands ended right above my elbows. I had no idea what color my hair was. When I tried to create an image of myself in my head, nothing came up. I don't know what I look like? What is happening to me?
Who am I? What's my name? Why don't I know who I am?!
I almost screamed out the questions cramping in my mind, afraid my head might blow into bits. Thoughts were appearing and disappearing, too fast for me to process what was going on.
I'm stuck in a dark, metal box with nothing but myself. I don't remember anything about myself and have no way out. Was I in jail?
Why can I remember what jail is but I can't remember what color my hair is? I remember the most common things, like what a tree is. Or what water is and that I could really use some right now.
"Think." I spoke outloud. I jumped at the sound of my voice bouncing off the walls. It sounded desperate and raspy. Though, it had a sweet tone to it as it rolled off my tongue. I'm thirsty, I thought again. I need to find a way out.
I got on my knees, searching the floor for a secret door or opening I didn't notice before. Whoever put me in here needed a way out. There's an exit somewhere.
Before I got the chance to sit back up, a rumble came from beneath and all around me. Movement.
The box was moving.
I couldn't tell if it was moving up or down, but it was taking me somewhere. Like an elevator, my thoughts intruded again. I decided to stay put, afraid I might hurt myself if I tried to stand up.
The box started moving a lot faster, causing the floor underneath to shake violently. I reached my arms out for something to hold onto but there was nothing. Then, I did what one does when they start to go crazy.
I screamed.
I screamed as loud as I could, hoping it would let someone know I was here and ready to leave. My lungs stung from the sudden outburst. The speed of the box was making me feel lightheaded. Maybe I was just dehydrated.
Before my body went limp, the box roughly came to a stop, causing my head to hit the stone floor. I let out a groan at the impact, massaging the side of my head. I rolled onto my back, feeling exhausted from the adrenaline.
"Let...me out!" I gasped out at the ceiling with whatever willpower I had left. Speaking those last few words used up every bit of energy I had left. It felt tiring to do anything else. Breathing was even difficult. I couldn't take it anymore. I let my eyes close shut, immediately knocking out right after.
