"I'm leaving Derry" 3 words Richie never wanted to say. "What?" Eddie said more than ask. "I'm moving away, my mom doesn't think it's safe here anymore. I'm moving to California." Richie says with tears falling down his face. His friends never saw him cry, but he was.
Bev tried to speak, we all could see her mouth open but nothing came out. Bill was stuttering so much you might think he was the one crying but no. "When are you leaving?" Stanley asked. "Tomorrow. I didn't want to tell you earlier, I didn't want you guys to get mad." He gets out before planting him face right back into his hands.
The group fell silent, only sharp breathes from people could be heard. Eddie didn't say anything, Ben didn't seem to care, Mike wasn't here, Stanley was staring off into nothing, Bev did the same as Stanley, and bill looked down not saying a word.
It startled them when Richie came and gave them hugs, one by one. He felt it was his fault for him moving but deep down his mother was right. It wasn't safe here.
"I'll see you guys before I leave tomorrow." Richie said as he walked away. Tomorrow he would be driving away from all he knew to go to California. A land ridden with droughts and cracked dirt. Almost the opposite from the little town he once called home.

The next day was hard, hugging everyone, crying, and saying goodbye. He wanted to run and hide from his mother in hopes she would leave without him but the thought would never go into action.
As he hugged Eddie, a whisper from Eddie made Richie jump. "I love you" as Richie pulled away he tears fell harder. "I love.. Your mom." He laughed and Eddie rolled his eyes, laughing as well.
The goodbyes to the rest of the group weren't special like Eddies. But he knew he would miss them. A lot more than they would miss him.

The car ride was long, tiring and boring, nothing caught his eye except maybe a bird or a weird shaped tree. Eddies words stuck with him. He always told himself he loved Eddie, in a couple type of way. Even going as far to write their initials in the bridge but he never knew what love felt like. His heart never felt like it would jump out of his chest when he was around Eddie, or anything cliche. He just felt like he liked him, just never knew if it was true.
Hours pass of driving and they finally make it to a little town in Cali.
They pull into the drive way of the new house, a new start, and look at each other and sigh. They used a moving truck to carry all their belongings. Now they had to take them out and get them inside.
It was dark out by the time they got to the house so they decided to just get blankets and pillows to sleep on the floor tonight and move everything in the morning.

Morning comes and they've started to unpack from the moving truck. Richie hated it but couldn't just leave his mom to do it all alone, and besides what else was he gonna do? Stare at a wall?
He was like a walking zombie and barely heard his mom talking to him until another voice joined. This voice was sweet but talked fast.
He looked up to see his mom talking to a woman who seemed to live in the neighborhood. But behind her was a boy who he seemed to be the womans son. He had a bowl cut which Richie found odd but yet cute. The boy looked at his mother as she talked like a lost puppy, he looked out of place and uncomfortable and seeking to the woman for comfort.
Richie stared at the mothers for a bit and turned back at the boy to see the boy staring at him. The boy quickly turned his head to look away from Richie.
Richie walked over to his mother and planted himself at her side, he felt awkward standing in the middle of their drive way with out purpose. He just so happened to see the boy's face from his spot by his mother. The boys face looked slightly red as if he had a fever.
Quickly snapped out if his train of thought by his name being said by his mother. "This is my son richie" his mother said smiling, so he smiled too. "Richie meet Joyce, she live across from us" she said. Joyce stuck out her hand and Richie met it with a hand shake. "Nice to meet you Joyce" he said. "My pleasure. This is my son will. She said pointing at the boy from earlier.
Will smiled and waved. " how about you boys go hang out while me and Joyce talk" Richie's mother said. Will looked to his mother for a second and she gave a smile to him, almost telling him to go.
The boy then walked over to Richie and gave him a weak smile."Hey" Richie said trying to keep things from getting awkward. "Hi" will said back. "Where did you move from?" Will asked. "Derry, in Maine" Richie sighed remembering his friends from Derry. "Oh cool" will smiled. "Did you move here or did you grow up here?" Richie asked, loosening up a tad bit. "I moved here, I lived in Hawkins Indiana." Wills says lowering his head. "Oh why did you move here?" Richie asks, a simple question to him but it seems to send will in panic. "Woah it's okay" Richie says placing his hands of the boys shoulders. "It's fine, I get it" Richie says looking over the boys shoulders to the clueless mothers behind them.
Wills takes a breath and seems to calm down but his eyes still seem to wander. The boys were interrupted by Joyce's voice telling will they had to go. The boy left with his mother but Richie's questions didn't stop.
What happened that made the boy so panicked?
