The Gilmore Girls were reading in the living room. Lorelai glances out the window. She jumped up when she saw the post vehicle. "Mail!"
"Mail!" The girls jumped up.
"Here's the mail, it never fails. It makes me want to wag my tail. When it comes I want to wail, Mail!" Anna sang as she ran to the door.
"Wait! Put on your shoes!" Lorelai stopped them from leaving.
"Fine." She pouts, putting them on.
"I'll get 'em later," Rory told her.
"No, get 'em now." She pushed her towards her room.
"Why?" She whines.
"Why? Because if your acceptance letter is in that batch of mail and you do not have shoes on, we can't run off immediately and celebrate. All of our happiness will be on hold until you come back inside and put on your shoes. Is that what you want, to put a hold on happiness?" She crosses her arms.
"What's the difference if we wait then or we wait now?" Rory didn't want to put on her shoes if she didn't need to.
"Because we are not happy now." She reasoned.
"And we have to wait for the mailman anyways." Yesterday, they gave the man a fright when they charged at him.
"Right, okay." She runs to her bedroom.
"No laces, just get 'em on your feet." She yelled.
A minute passed before she ran out. "Let's go!" She led the path to the front door. They run outside to the mailbox. Kirk is going through his mailbag.
"Kirk!" They shouted.
"Good morning, ladies." He digs through his bag.
"Is there an envelope in there?" Rory asks.
"A big envelope, not a little envelope." Anna took a peek into the bag.
"Yeah, a big envelope means they're in, a little envelope means they need to marry rich." Lorelai nods.
"Just one second, please." He continued to take out letters to put them back in the bag when he saw it wasn't for them.
"Aren't you supposed to go through the mail before you get here?" Rory watches him.
"Some work that way. I think it takes the spontaneity out of the job." He hummed while he worked.
"Need some help?" Lorelai offers.
"Sorry, federal law prohibits it." He shook his head.
"Well, can you at least look at the big envelopes first?" She saw a few in the bag.
"I work from the front to the back." He pointed to the front of the bag where all the small envelopes were.
"Any chance you could go faster?" Rory had been waiting years for this moment.
"Yeah, you got a girl's future in that sack of yours...Santa." She added when she realized how that sounded.
"Thank you for adding Santa." Rory was worried there for a second.
"Yeah, things were about to be a bad porno." Anna grimaces.
"Any time." She wouldn't want an awkward moment with Kirk.
"You know what I've noticed?" He points an envelope at them.
"There wouldn't be any mail in there with our names on it, would it?" Lorelai thought of the only thing she needed from him.
"I've noticed people don't slow down anymore." He looks at the address before putting the envelope back in the bag.
"Guess I've got time to tie my shoes." She bent down to do that.
