Chapter Text
"So...basically I do this...and this...and then..." Klaus murmured to himself aloud, but then started scribbling as he held his head in frustration as he sat at his desk in his room. "AUUUGGHHH- I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THIS AT ALL!" He exclaimed tearfully as he looked over his books on magic theory.
Our achievement tests are right around the corner! How am I supposed to retain any of this?!
He sighed heavily, quickly deciding that he needed a change of pace and so he picked out a few of his textbooks, placing those and a few other supplies in his bag, now wanting to study somewhere new.
As he walked through the courtyard, humming to himself, wondering if he should go to the main library, but then he spotted a familiar face.
"Lady Mary!" Klaus called out as his friend who turned towards him in surprise. "Getting some exercise too?" He asked as he walked up to her. "Studying in one place for too long is really stressful huh?"
"Yes of course!" Mary said as Klaus noticed her eyes lighting up happily.
She is too precious.
Klaus thought to himself, but then he remembered that his childhood friend was once of the top students within the school. "If you're free would you mind studying with me? I wasn't getting anywhere just copying down the notes by myself-"
"I will!" She exclaimed eagerly as she grasped her friend's hand. "I always enjoy spending time with you Lord Klaus!"
Her words made Klaus's face turn red with joy, extremely happy that he had cultivated such a nice friendship with the formerly soft-spoken girl.
As the two walked through towards the library together, Klaus immediately became frightened, falling back and freezing up at the sight of a small dog that appeared from the woods nearby.
"NO NO NO NOOOO!" Klaus exclaimed fearfully as the dog jumped on him, desperately wanting to give him kisses as its tail wagged furiously.
"Oh my," Mary remarked, recognizing the breed as one of the guard dogs that were supposed to deter intruders, however, they always managed to track down Klaus no matter where he went. She watched for a moment as Klaus struggled to keep the puppy away from his face, finding the sight rather adorable as was crying out for help. However, the scene was interrupted as Alan stepped in, pulling the dog away and holding it in his arms for a moment.
"To think, my rival would cower over a little puppy." Alan teased as Klaus then glared at him in annoyance.
"A demon." Klaus rasped as he caught his breath. "Nothing less but a demon."
Alan scoffed, and the dog began to whimper, wanting to play with its new friend. "It's a puppy, and I think he likes you." He said holding the dog close to his friend who then cowered behind Mary.
"You would know, wouldn't you?! Demon!" Klaus said, sticking his tongue out at the prince, who shooed the guard dog away.
"What are you doing messing around out here anyhow? Don't you have tests to be studying for rather than playing with puppies?" Alan asked, picking up Klaus's fallen bag while Mary spoke up.
"We were just on our way to the library Prince Alan." She clarified.
"Not with those dogs in the area. No matter what, they always manage to find me." Klaus shuddered as he recalled how many times he came across them in the past few weeks alone.
