Due to the fact vision no longer had the mind stone in his head he was not needed to help with the avengers as he only got his powers from the stone so he sat everyday waiting for Wanda to come back to him.

At the compound:
The compound started to shake as captain marvel landed the ship onto the ground. Everyone ran out to see what was happening. A hatch opened to show nebula and tony stark walking out. Tony was pale and very skinny showing how he hasn't ate in a while.

Steve goes up to tony supporting him by holding his arm while walking "couldn't stop him"

"Neither could I"

"Hang on. I lost the kid"

"Tony we lost" They both sounded defeated ready to give up.

"Is uh... oh good"

"Oh my god" pepper came running over sobbing and immediately hugged him.

"Its been 23 days since thanos came to earth"

"World governments are in pieces. The parts that are still working are trying to take a census and it looks like he did. He did exactly what he said he was gonna do. Thanos wiped out 50% of all living creatures." Natasha informed everyone. Thor sat depressed rubbing his hands.

"Where is he now? Where?" Tony asked

"We dont know. He just opened a portal and walked through." Cap answered, his arms crossed and head down.

Tony sighs then points to Thor and says, "whats wrong with him?"

"Oh he's pissed. He thinks he failed which of course he did but there's a lot of that going round, ain't there"

"Honestly, until this exact second i thought you were a build-a-bear"

"Maybe I am"

"We've been hunting Thanos for 3 weeks now. Deep space scans and satellites and we got nothing. Tony you fought him."

"Who told you that. I didnt fight him. No, he wiped my face with a planet while the bleeker street magician gave away the stone. That's what happened. There was no fight cause he's not beatable"

"Did he give you any clues any coordinates, anything"

"I saw this coming a few years back. I had a vision. I didnt wanna believe it. Thought I was dreaming"

"Tony i need you to focus."

"And i needed you. As in past tense. That trumps what you need. Its too late buddy. You know what i need. I need to shave."

Tony stands up shakily, knocking over things on the table in front of him.

"I believe, i remember telling him..." Tony starts trying to rip out the iv in his arm.

"Tony"

"Alive and otherwise that we needed was a suit of armour around the world. Whether it impacted our precious freedom or not. Thats what we needed."

"Well that didnt work, did it?"

"I said we'd lose. You said we'd do that together too. And guess what cap. We lost and you weren't there. But thats what we do right. Our best work after the fact. We're the avengers. Not the pre-vengers" Rhodey held tony trying to get him to stop.

"You've made your point. Sit down."

"no here's my point. You know what" Tony continued to fight against rhodey. "She's great by the way. We need you." Pointing towards carol. "I will add, who the hell is charlotte. Anyone know. Do you know cap. What about you nat. You knew them best. Huh. I know they were with you after our fight so tell me who." Natasha looked down not saying anyrhing. "Huh nothing. Wow, great friend you are" "Bunch of tired old mules. I got nothing for you, cap. I got no coordinates, no clues, no strategies, no options. Zero, zip, nada. No trust, liar." He walked up to Steve getting in his face. He ripped out his arc reactor setting it in Steve's hand. "Here take this. You find him, put that on, you hide"
