The tower was huge, with a long winding stairway leading up the enormous floating boulders. Each step intricately carved into the side. Speechless, I started to make my way up the steps, following closely behind princess Agnes. Has we reached the top of the stairway, the wind started picking up and along with it came a light refreshing mist.

I had closed my eyes for merely a moment, enjoying the almost peaceful atmosphere when I felt a slight tug on my arm. Princess Agnes grasped my right arm and in doing so brought me close enough to her to whisper in my ear.

"Maximillian, this place can be dangerous, please watch your step!"

I could hear the intended message within her words. This place was new, and I did not have guards to protect me from physical harm. After her slight warning, Agnes started giving what one would consider a small tour, pointing out a variety of different areas in the courtyard. Furrowing my brows, I tried to concentrate on her instructions, however the tower seemed to be a maze of carefully crafted tunnels. One look and you could tell that it would take a while to become accustomed to it. I am sure it will become familiar to me, after all this will be my home for the next few years.

Princess Agnes's tour was cut short when we happened upon a group of 6 men standing in the middle of the path. They each wore intricate robes of varying colors and seemed to be taking my small figure in. One man stepped forward and introduced himself has Mage Alec. Alec was a tall and slender man, and compared to the others, he seemed more at ease. Before I could introduce myself, Agnes took it upon herself to speak up.

"This is Maximillian Calypse, the mage that I wrote to you about."

The men moved their gaze to me, and Alex spoke up, " welcome to the tower Maximillian. I am sure you are aware; we follow a set of specific rules. If you follow me, we will show you to your chambers and give you a brief tour of the grounds."

Alec motioned with his hands to follow the other mages, who had already turned and started making their way back into the building. Not wanting to upset them, I wasted no time in following them inside. Alec, who had stayed behind to instruct the sailors, who were hauling the rest of our luggage off of the boat, quickly caught up with us. We rounded a few corners and then came to a dimly lit corridor. On each side were evenly spaced doors. The man leading the group turned and with a thin smile walked to the last door on the left and gestured for us to enter.

"This used to be Agnes's room, while she enjoyed her stay here. I am sure the both of you will find it quite comfortable." The man then looked at princess Agnes. "Since you will only be staying for a short while I hope you do not mind sharing a room. We have added an extra bed to help accommodate the both of you."

With a slight dip of his head he turned and continued down the corridor. Alec who had been silently tailing behind us spoke up..."Maximillian, why don't you make yourself comfortable, I will come back  before dinner. There are a few things I would like to go over, especially with your unique situation."

I turned around and tried to give him one of my best smiles. "T-thank y-you! I w-will get settled and meet w-with you later."

Upon hearing my words Alec raised an eyebrow, but trying not to be rude, he smiled and walked away. When I turned back around Princess Agnes had already entered the room. She was scrutinizing every corner, making sure everything was still where she left it.

"Maximillian come take a look, they kept the room exactly the same."

She was still scrutinizing the room when I finally walked through the threshold. Off to the right corner were the 2 beds. One was pushed up against the wall, partially covering up the corner of a window, while the others headboard, although touching the wall, was a bit further into the center of the room. Turning my head to the right I took in the rest of the room. At the end of the first bed was a big window looking out into the sea. It had a large windowsill, one that I was sure I could comfortably curl up on and have a full view of the endless ocean.
