You gaze upon his red, sliced face.  He has finally stopped bleeding and now an ice pack lies on the place you hit him.  You had worked hard to get him lying in a comfortable position upon the couch with a blanket over him.  You hoped he wasn’t too hot.  You didn’t mean to hurt him; you were only protecting yourself, right?  The boys would understand.  Right?

“Hey, we’re home!” you hear Harry say.

You turn around to see all the boys coming in.

“Hey, you,” Zayn says.

“Hi guys,” you say.

“How was it here alone?” Liam asks.

“It was…fine…” you lie.

Louis chuckles.

“Niall’s sleepin’, huh?” he asks.

“Oh, yeah.  He fell asleep a while ago,” you say.

“What’s that on his face?” Liam asks, hanging up his coat.

“Oh, um…it’s an ice pack.  You see…” you begin.

You need to decide if you should tell them or not.  Telling them might be the best way to help Niall, but perhaps it would be best if the whole thing be kept a secret, or else the part where Niall pinned you to the floor might have to come up.

“He fell,” you lie.

Liam whirls around.

“He fell?” Liam asks.  “How did that happen?”

Liam rushed over to Niall and knelt by him.

“He was running…he tripped and fell.  He hit his face on the post by the stairs,” you explain.

Liam reaches for the ice pack and lifts it, revealing the cut.  Liam gasps in horror.

“Well, it doesn’t look too bad.  I keep telling Niall not to run around so much!” Liam says.  “But it looks like you’ve got him well looked-after.  Good job, (Your Name).”

You smile.  You can’t help but feel a little guilty.  You could have helped so much more by not letting Niall drink that wine.  But how were you supposed to know that that innocent little boy was going to find it?

The rest of the boys have gathered and heard the whole story.

“We’ll let him rest and wake up on his own,” Liam says.  “Until then, no one make a sound.  Got that?”

The other three boys agree.

“Come on Zayn,” Louis says.  “Help me put the groceries away.”

“Alright,” Zayn says, grabbing a bag and following Louis into the kitchen.

“Harry, can you please go clean the loft?  We haven’t been here for two days and you’ve already made it a mess!” Liam complains.

“Yes, Liam,” Harry sighs.

Liam leaves to help the boys in the kitchen.

“You know…” Harry says, suddenly appearing by you, “you could come help me if you want.”

You roll your eyes and shake your head.  Harry shrugs.  You sigh in relief when he is gone upstairs.

Alone with Niall again.  All of a sudden, Niall moves for the first time in what seems like hours.  You jump.  Niall stretches his arms out and sighs.  The ice pack falls from his face and onto the floor.  Niall gets a confused look on his face.  His eyes shoot open and look straight into yours.  You just sit there staring back at him.
