"What was Will saying?" Mike questioned once they got back to his basement. El was on the couch resting.
"Like home. . . But dark?" Y/n said.
"And empty." Added Lucas.
"Empty and cold. Wait, did he say cold?" Dustin asked.
"I think so. The radio kept going in and out." Y/n answered.
"It's like riddles in the dark." Dustin sighed.
"Like home. Like his house?" Said Mike.
"Or maybe like Hawkins." Lucas suggested.
"Upside down." El muttered weakly from the couch. They all turned to look at her.
"What'd she say?" Lucas questioned.
"Upside down." Mike answered.
"Upside down." Y/n repeated as her eyes fell on the flipped over D&D board.
Mike seemed to be thinking the same thing as he wondered over to it "When El showed us where Will was she flipped the board over, remember?" He said.
"Do you understand what he's talking about?" Lucas looked over to Dustin.
"No." Dustin said.
"No it makes sense." Y/n said "Guys come on think about it. Dark and empty. Just like the bottom of the board. And when El took us to find Will, she took us to mine and his house, right?"
"Yeah. And he wasn't there." Said Lucas bitterly.
"But what If he was and we just couldn't see him?" Said y/n. "What if this is Hawkins and this is where Will is. The upside down." She said flipping the board.
"Like the vale of shadows." Said Dustin. He seemed to be catching on.
He got up and grabbed a D&D game book and began reading on 'The vale of shadows'.
"It is a place of decay and death. A plane out of phase. A place of monsters. It is right next to you and you don't even see it." Dustin read.
"An alternative dimension." Said Mike.
"But. . . How do we get there?" Lucas asked.
"We cast Shadow walk." Dustin answered.
"In real life, dummy." Lucas scolded.
"We can't shadow walk, but. . . Maybe she can." Dustin said looking over at El.
"Do you know how we get to the upside down?" Mike asked El.
She shook her head.
"Oh my god." Lucas sighed.

Wills funeral was tomorrow. Of course it wasn't actually for him but still. Y/n had to talk to her relatives and act like she had lost her twin brother. But she knew he was alive. Definitely alive.
She rode her bike home after being at Mike's house to find something really odd. She wasn't that shocked too see a hole in her house or anymore of the lights that were put up. But one thing she did not expect was when she opened the front door to find her father sitting on the living room couch with her mother.
"Hey, kid." Her father said upon seeing her.
"What's going on?" She asked immediately a sudden fear over coming her. She didn't bother greeting her father properly. He treated them all like shit before he left. He sometimes got violent back then. There were times when he would grab y/n's hair and yank it hard and other times were he would actually hit her. Y/n remembered this one specific time of it happening when she was in the car with him and couldn't escape. He also once grabbed her wrist hard, making it ache and leaving a bruise that lasted for weeks. Jonathan did his best to help and defend y/n during those times even though he were getting the abuse as well and it always ended in Jonathan and Lonnie fighting. But Jonathan wasn't always around. Will never really got abused physically, but verbally mainly. It got so bad that ever since she was little, y/n would lock herself in the bathroom usually for about 3 hours to get away from him. Will joined her most of the time and the two just sat on the cold tiles floor together.
