John Maximilian sat proudly in his office. Sure, maybe his school wasn't the best, but he ruled his empire with an iron fist. He settled in this town twenty years ago, and the residents have been grateful to him ever since for starting a school in their small town. He had been the principal since then.
...
Felix, like any other day, droned out the teacher's voice. He knew that he should be listening, Ade tells him every chance she gets. He also knows that every time the principal calls her to his office, it is to scold her on his behalf. He knows it's useless to chastise him, so he hits him where he hurts the most, his only family member.
The teacher, noticing that one of her pupils was not paying attention, fired a question, "So, Mr. Christen, what should you remember when-" Feeling a bit strange, Felix snapped out the answer, "I don't know, okay?" The teacher held back a smirk and started grilling him, enjoying the signs of growing frustration evident on his face. Finally, feeling like he couldn't take it anymore, he snapped, "Oh for God's sake I'm done!" and leaves.
...
"Ms. Christen." The principal beckons to a chair in front of the desk.
Adria sits on the chair facing the principal, and starts to open her mouth to begin the rehearsed apology to cover for her brother, "I'm so sor-" "Enough, please Ms. Christen, I called you here to listen to me." Interrupted the principal with a smirk on his face, "Your brother is irresponsible, disrespectful, disobedient and pays no heed to my reprimands. I'm tired of granting you a pass each day. He gets out of class whenever he feels like, doesn't listen to his teacher, plays no part in presentations and projects and-".
"Please sir, today is the last day. I'm sorry on his behalf". Adria interrupted. John Maximilian, the principal, hasn't yet found even a single person in this school, immune to his words, except for the Christen twins. While glaring at Adria Christen, he thought of the letter he received on the day, back when the Christens were admitted into his establishment.
Dear Mr. Maximilian,
I'm sure you have received two new students today. I am writing to inform you that you should keep a close eye on both of them. You may not believe me now, but as the years progress, you will find them different from your average students. You will most probably find them immune to many of your ways, so I am warning you, make sure you have them on a leash, never let them have their own way, or you will regret it...
A well-wisher
He didn't believe the person at the time because he assumed he had control over them. Now thinking back on it, he realized he should have kept a closer eye on them. He knew that he could make Felix do anything he wanted if he threatened the safety of his sister, he also knew that in turn, he made Felix absolutely despise him, but he just didn't care. He was named their guardian, until the age of 18, so he could do whatever he wanted with them.
The girl, Adria, worked whenever she could at several odd jobs, wrote stories for newspapers, and books until her hands were sore, and did whatever she could do to support their family of two. He completely left the duo to do whatever they wished outside school premises, he made it clear at an early age that he didn't care whatever happened to them and that it wasn't any of his concern. He disgusted the twins and he was certainly aware of it.
Bored, he started to dismiss her, "Fine, just leave, and get that brother of yours back in his class in ten minutes, got it?" Nodding, Adria hid a look of disgust as she turned her back on this vile man, and went to search for the only family she had left.
