At 12:33AM I woke up to my phone ringing. It was a number I recognized but couldn't identify. I picked up because it had our area code on it. "Hello?" I said. "Mel, its Nash. Something happened with Hayes," he said in complete panic and terror. "Well what's wrong? What happened?" I said in a bit of a panicked tone. "We got into an accident," he replied with a sob. "My mom is here and so are the police but I think you should be too" he said. "Okay text me your location and I'll be there in a few. Don't worry Nash it'll be okay. Just don't worry. Calm down and take a deep breath," I replied. "Okay Mel, thank you" he said. He sounded a little bit calmer now. "You're welcome. I'll be there soon," I said reassuring him. "Okay bye," he said ina calm tone. "Bye" I said. I ran into my mom's room and woke her up. "MOM! MOM! IT'S HAYES! CAN YOU DRIVE ME TO HIM?" I said in a panicked way. "Sure honey. In the morning!" She said half asleep. "NO MOM HIM AND NASH GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT AND SOMETHINGS SERIOUSLY WRONG I NEED TO GO NOW" I exclaimed with tears streaming down my face. She jumped out of bed and said "Well why didn't you say that sooner! Where are they?" I'm so scared right now. Nash didn't tell me what's wrong with Hayes and why couldn't Hayes have called me himself? I gave mom the address in the car and she drove me there as fast as she possibly could. When I arrived there I flung the door open and ran over to the scene. Hayes was unconscious with a gash on his forehead. Nash came over to me and saw the state of hysteria I was in. "The paramedics said he has a steady, strong heart rate and that he'll be perfectly fine. We were driving to Wawa to go get shakes and we were at a red light. When the light turned green I was driving through the intersection when a car ran the red light and hit the passenger side. Hayes was out cold and had that gash on his head. I called 911 as fast as my fingers could move and then I called my mom. After they came, my mom took Hayes' phone and got your number. That's when I called you. She said he would want you here to support him like when he was supporting you when you fainted." He said in about four breaths. "Oh my god. I can't believe this happened. I'm so sorry Nash. I'm so sorry." I said as tears rolled down my cheeks. I had my head down as more and more tears streamed down my face. Just then a hand cupped my face and lifted my head. "Hey, it's not your fault. It's not mine either. Don't worry. This will all be okay. I promise." Nash said as he wiped my tears away. I nodded and hugged him as tight as I could. "Are you okay?" I asked as I had my head on his shoulder. "Perfectly fine. Not a scratch. Maybe a bruise here and there but I'm alright. Now go ride in the ambulance with your boyfriend and answer medical questions. You know the answers right?" I nod and say "Okay. Thanks for calming me down." He smiles and says "Me and Mom will meet up with you at the hospital. We have to make sure my car gets towed and that the other guy's okay." I nodded and walked over to Hayes. I frowned and stroked his cheek. The paramedic walked over and asked "Are you the one riding with him?" I looked up and nodded. He acknowledged my response and said "Alright then. Let's go." The paramedics lifted the gurney into the ambulance, turned toward me, and motioned toward the bench. I stepped up into the truck and sat on the bench. I grabbed Hayes' hand as soon as I sat down. The truck started moving and the sirens went on.
As the ambulance sped along, one of the paramedics, John, was asking me questions about Hayes. "Does he have any allergies?" I knew the answers to all the questions so far. "No," I said trying to sound calm and collected, even though that was the last thing I was. Yesterday he was completely fine and now he's unconscious on a gurney. "Has he had any recent head injuries?" John asked. "Um, yeah. He had a concussion last year from football. Does that count?" I replied all in one breath. "Yes it does. Thank you. Was he cleared again after it?" John asked. He had asked at least twenty questions already! "Yes, he was cleared three weeks after the concussion," I said as I remembered sitting at football practice with him listening to how much he wanted to get up and play but couldn't. We watched his dad lead practice for three weeks, sat out of two games, and cheered on the team as much as we could. Just then I snapped out of my gaze as the back doors of the ambulance opened. The paramedics took the gurney out of the truck and I hopped out too. I'll spare you the details of checking him in. It was boring and a lot of writing on a clipboard. When Nash and Liz arrived, Hayes was getting stitches on his forehead in a trauma room, which I was not aloud into. Once they were done they let me in and Hayes was not awake yet. Nash and Liz waited outside in the waiting area. They figured they'd give us some privacy. I sat in the chair next to him for about ten minutes just staring at him holding his hand until he finally woke up. His eyes opened and were a light blue and they looked around for a little bit before they locked on me. He smiled and I said "Hey," softly. "I have a headache," he said faintly. I laughed and said "I had a feeling you'd say that. Do you know what happened?" He thought about it for a couple seconds and shook his head. "You and Nash got into an accident a couple hours ago. The driver ran a red light and hit your side of the car. You were out cold for about an hour. I rode in the ambulance with you and answered all the medical questions while Nash and your mom took care of the car and the guy that hit you guys," I said waiting for an expression on Hayes' face but didn't get one. He was thinking about what I had told him when Nash walked in. "Hey bud, how you feelin'?" Nash asked. "Good. I just have a headache," Hayes replied.
