chapter nine » tomorrow

"YOU are going to apologize, though, right?" Eric asked Hyde as they sat in the pub, downing some fries, "She hasn't spoken to any of us in a week, plus it's almost Christmas."

"Did you not hear me when I said I've been trying?" Hyde groaned, "I went to her place like five times and now that she's back at school, she's practically running down hallways to get away from me." He then tossed his hands up, "I'm not the only one at fault here, you know? You were there when Kelso made the stupid bet, he should be trying to help us talk to her."

"He's been too busy arguing with Jackie," Eric responded, taking a sip from his drink as Hyde scoffed.

"And Jackie, the nerve of her," He shook his head, thinking of how she treated Christina that night. It was undeserved and he knew he was to blame for part of it if he just never agreed to Kelso's bidding, "She's the reason we're all in this mess now. I could have explained the situation better to Chris without Jackie butting in."

"She shouldn't have done that, you're right about that," Eric nodded, "But she only did it because she was mad at Kelso."

"I don't care, she's such a ditz, man," He remarked, no longer hungry, "I have to try to talk to Chris again."

"Hyde," Eric called, "How do you feel about Christina?" Hyde immediately met Eric's eyes through his tinted sunglasses, "I'm only asking because I've never seen you like someone in a long time."

"Because everyone I meet ends up being a waste of time," Hyde sighed, "But Chris- Christina is just different."

"Doesn't answer my question," Eric retorted and Hyde scoffed at his friend.

"That's the best answer you're going to get from me, alright?" At that, Eric threw his hands in the air, "I'm gonna get going, you got this?" Hyde motioned at the food and Eric nodded before Hyde stood, soon leaving the pub.

He definitely believed in what he said about Christina, even though he couldn't get descriptive enough to say what he felt exactly. He had to try to talk to her one more, even if it meant knocking on her front door.

And that's exactly what he did- though, not without hesitation. He hovered his balled up fist in front of her door, unsure of what to do. He then reached out of for the doorbell, ringing it twice before stepping away by five feet. He rocked back and forth on his heels, anxious to see Christina, though when the door swung open, he was greeted by Fred.

"Uh," Hyde paused, "Hi, Mr.Lewis, is Chris home- Christina? Is she here?"

Fred raised a brow but hummed, "Yeah, she's right upstairs. Eric, right?"

"God, no," Hyde grimaced, "I'm Hyde."

"Sorry about that, son," Fred chuckled, "I can go get Christina for you, you're welcome to come in."

Fred opened the door more and motioned Hyde to walk in and stand close to the door as he went to Christina, "Tina?" Fred called, knocking on the door before she allowed him to open it, "You have a guest here for you, his name is Hyde."

Christina looked at him slightly stunned, she didn't think Hyde was capable of talking to her family to get through to her. She quickly got out of her bed, tossing her pen onto her dresser, before she stopped at her thoughts, "Mom's still home?"

"She's in the kitchen," He responded and she rushed past him and downstairs, seeing Hyde fumbling with his hands.

He raised his head at the rapid footsteps, giving Christina a small smile when they met eyes, "Hey, Chris-"

"Outside," She overspoke, opening the door so they both could stand outside to talk. She closed it behind her and grabbed Hyde's wrist pulling him a few feet away from her house. "Hyde, what are you doing?"

"I'm just trying to talk to you and explain everything," He responded, but she raised a brow.

"Was the bet real?"

"What?"

"If it was, then there's need to explain any further," She shrugged, "There's nothing to talk about."

He then glanced at his feet, "When I made that deal with Kelso, I was only doing it for fun-"

"Goodnight, Hyde." She dismissed, but he shook his head, determined to get his point across.

"Just hear me out, Chris, please?" He pleaded, and she stood quiet with crossed arms, "I just want to apologize. No excuses, no bullcrap- whether or not you forgive me. You didn't deserve to be treated like some toy and I shouldn't have played a part in it." He stared at her for a moment, hoping to meet her eyes and when he did, he spoke again, "Christina, I'm sorry."

She could tell he meant what he said, and she wanted to argue against it, but she continued to stand in front of him with nothing to say. Hyde lowered his head and ruffled his hair, trying not to feel like he completely lost her friendship because he was convinced that they had 'something'.

A soft sigh left his lips, "Chris-" He didn't know what else to say, but he just knew he didn't want her to leave him at her front door, "I don't want us to stop being friends, okay? I- I don't want to lose you over this."

"It's getting late, you should head home," She responded, her voice hush as she avoided his eyes. He stood motionless as she headed to her door, opening it only to look over her shoulder, "I'll see you at school tomorrow, okay?"

"Yeah, tomorrow!" He hurriedly rushed out, not even processing her words to him completely.

He had to take the opportunity before she closed the door in his face, and when she did, a smile broke out onto his face. Hyde knew he didn't get a clear confirmation on if he was forgiven, but could care less since he was all the more excited to see her again tomorrow.
